Is England* vs Turkey truly balanced?
The stats spread on England* vs Turkey is innocuous enough. England* wins 55% of games which do not end in a draw, Turkey wins 45%. England is favored, but not to the extent that Turkey can't win; the game is not balanced, but it also isn't drastically skewed either way.

However, I have recently encountered an opening from England that I'm struggling to counter as Turkey.

We're keen to get the views of players at vDip, webDip and PlayDip about what aspects of online Dip pisses them off.

Have your say in this thread, +1 stuff that resonates with you, and Kaner & I will collate across the 3 sites.

We'll then try putting these issues to the site admins to get their take on whether there's any chance of addressing these issues.

BTW, it doesn't have to always be technical in nature. In episode 21 as an example we discuss NMRs and what can be done when creating a game to reduce the chances of this happening. Some solutions are based on the game settings, but others can be agreed rules/principles between players.

People who don't NMR, but don't move their units at all, nor order them to support. I have seen this here on vDip and WebDip a lot recently. They either suffer a setback, or sometimes even take over a CD power, and do this. They make no moves, but will usually put in their retreat orders. Very annoying!

In this case, I'd prefer they NMR, so someone else could take over.

It drives me nuts when people do not ready up in a Gunboat game or during retreat phases. I wait during diplomacy phases in case somebody wants to communicate with me, but you never negotiate during retreat phases or a gunboat. Unless people are NMRing, there's not going to be anything to wait for.

The fact that, on mobile, a long reply starts to overflow the text box and obscure the 'post reply' button, rendering diplo either non-extant until you get back to a computer to actually talk to people, or restricting the length of messages so much that any reasonable level of planning takes most of the message cache.

Maps where it's difficult to see borders when in play, or where territories use other territories in their names, making clarity an issue (Germany 1648).
G-Man won't like me then. I'm a firm believer in chainsaw diplomacy. Proper use of the f-word is imperative to get your point across and can even be combined with a bit of reverse psychology to drive a person to do exactly what you want them to.

@Mouse - if a reply starts to obscure the post reply button, tap anywhere on the page outside of the messagebox (obviously not on a link because that will take you away from the page). The post reply button will reappear below the messagebox and it will stay visible from then on.

@G-man, I feel you.

Germany 1648 is really one of the, if not the most, time consuming variant in terms of placing orders. It doesn't make it all that better with the presence of Knights who can move 2 territories ;-). Fascinating variant, but most definitely an absolute brain melter in terms of orders.

When you come across a player for a 2nd time who then tells all the new players all your previous actions. Each game in separate for me entirely and there should never be 'cross game' things happening.

@StartPlayer

I understand your point but I don't think I fully agree. For me there are two seperate issues at hand:

1. I would never hold a grudge for a player in game #2 based upon a stab by that person in game #1. They are both separate games with their own dynamics

2. A stab by someone could tell something about a diplomatic player profile. If i have seen someone continuously blowing their alliances with people in one game, I wouldn't mind using that as a negotiation tool with other players in other games. I would never specifically reference to the first game, but I do mention that my previous experience with a certain player have been everything but enjoyable.
abadu (1227 D)

In general players who don't engage in any diplomatic negotiations whatsoever (or in very little) in press games. There is gunboat for that. And said players can be sure they'll soon become my next target. I guess you can use silent treatment as a diplomatic strategy but it's nevertheless frustrating.

Another thing, not really a reason for frustration but I wish there was more love for variant Diplomacy. There's so many awesome variants out there and you can really see how much time and thought has been spent on them, but still it might be difficult to find enough enthusiasts to get a game going. For me the variants really keep this game fresh and enjoyable.

And sometimes I really hate stabbing a player who has been nothing but loyal to you, but it's simply the smartest play. It makes me hate the game and its brutal nature a little bit. Maybe someday my emotional detachment will have reached sufficient levels to prevent this from happening :D
abadu (1227 D)

@Technostar: I sort of agree, just ready up your orders if they are somewhat trivial or retreat orders etc. But sometimes in gunboat games during the diplomatic phases there might a very complicated setting, and at least for me it might help to first enter some initial orders, return to them later and reiterate until I'm satisfied with them.
@abadu - It helps if you have sociopathic or even psychopathic tendencies. Some of the best Dip players are psychopathic by definition (come across as caring about your nations well being and wanting to help you while actually manipulating you into helping them).

Force drawn games
Games with fixed end year are (for ranking purposes) treated like solo victories for the power with the largest SC tally (even when PPSC scoring is used). Is that intentional? Not that I think it matters much to me, but I do find it rather odd, it would seem like the more logical approach would be that they are treated as force drawn, or possibly use affect ranking differently depending on scoring system used.

To Everyone in Furnace of Affliction
I'm really sorry, as I was trying to fix the Indonesia Build bug the game sent everyone into CD and cancelled itself. This was because I forgot about another bug - if you enter all holds, it counts as an NMR even if saved, so when I tried to advance the game 2 phases it assumed everyone had NMR'd twice (even though I'd set hold orders for everyone).
