Replace PPSC with something rank-based?
I've put together a length proposal over on PlayDip to provide a rank-based scoring system for draws that's similar to the Carnage system used in several North American Dip tournaments today.

Advertise your NON-live games here!
In an effort to compromise the pro-ads versus anti-ads for games: Post here for your non-live games to cut down on the number of ads but still advertise games. Post game link, WTA or PPSC, and the bet. Note: this doesn't count for special rules games.

WWII Tournament
I would like to start a tournament. I've seen the Known World and 1v1 tournaments, and those are great fun. So why not apply it to World War II? I'm still working out the details, but I'll post some details.

Playtest of variant
Hi! I am trying to organize a playtest of a variant I created with some unique rules that made it not possible to implement on vdiplomacy (yet!). I have called it 'Feudal Diplomacy'. [See below for details!]

1900 for vDip: Progress Report (ongoing)
As mentioned in another thread, I've been working on the code and assets necessary to port Baron M. Powell's variant 1900 to vDip and/or webDip.

In order to keep myself accountable in some fashion to actually complete this task, and not just talk about it, I've created a small project plan where I can mark my progress.

Taking over Civil Disorders should be free of charge
Reasoning: the player who takes over a Civil Disorder is not just putting themself in a precarious position (as they must evaluate everybody's styles and strategies) but they are also saving the game's balance and fun.

In order to reward/incentive people to take more CDs, I believe that making it free of charge (rather than current 50% discount) would be for the best. Thoughts?

Variants as maps, rules and tweaks
I’d like to propose a variant system that could lead to a significant increase in flexibility of testing out new variants.

Today a variant consists of a map, a set of starting positions and possibly some rule changes. This could be decoupled I think, just like press mode is separated from variant. Think of chaotic, no neutrals and layered as map tweaks. Fog of war, build anywhere and octopus as rule changes. Standard, modern, empire, WWIV, colonial, etc are maps. Combining these alone would yield an almost infinite amount of combinations of exciting variants to play. I for one would love to play a chaotic, fog of war, broadcast only game on the WWIV map ;)

Perhaps such a restructuring would also make it easier to develop new variants? Sorry I meant easier to develop new maps, rule changes and map tweaks ;)

This is a very good idea! Probably quite cumbersome to implement, but once done it would allow every variant a much wider range of options.

Yes! I've mentioned before that it would be great to be able to play fog of war on any map. It would probably need a big rewriting of the code, but it would definitely be very nice to have.

Always wanted more FoW options. Also would like Fog variants with an option for submarine and spy units, which would essentially be fleet and army units, respectively, except they would not have attack power and would remove the fog for an extra ring of territories around it. Or something like that.
(Sorry for the tangent. Go fog!!

That’s a great idea!
Don't forget transform to fleet/army as an option.

People have also requested starting games with only a subset of the powers involved. That could be made generic. I am not sure the size of the user base here really justifies that amount of work, but it would be cool.

I was thinking about some way to add these rule-changes as options for all maps, but as I'm not that very good at PHP I did not find an easy way to change this in the code.
I try not to change too much, so I can merge all the cool webDip-code-updates in the vDip-code too. And hand-code all options directly in the webdip-code would make the code really messy. So there needs to be some sort of rules-variant-overlay (same we have now for the variants).

Also I don't have much coding-time. So someone else should give this a shot. YOu can download the vDip-Code here: https://github.com/Sleepcap/vDiplomacy
and give it a try.

A rule change I think is fun is the "carry variant". In that variant armies can carry fleets overland exactly as fleets normally convoy armies. An army in an inland area can carry a fleet between two coastal areas that border the inland area. For example A Bur C F Gas-Mar.
Sky_Hopper (923 D)

The build anywhere variation should be the easiest to implement.
Sky_Hopper (923 D)

Also, if a game calls for a default build anywhere, or lack thereof, then the setting can be set to "default".
