Known World Tournament
Awhile back, kaner proposed a Known World gunboat tournament in which 15 participants would play 15 games, one with each nation. I searched back for the thread, then just decided to start a new one. I want to see if there would be sufficient interest in this to try to get it off the ground.

Advertise your NON-live games here!
In an effort to compromise the pro-ads versus anti-ads for games: Post here for your non-live games to cut down on the number of ads but still advertise games. Post game link, WTA or PPSC, and the bet. Note: this doesn't count for special rules games.

Word Association Thread
Hello! I saw a thread like this on WebDip. We start with a word, and you then post the one word that pops into your mind after you read that word. The first word is FIRST.

Win Conditions less than majority
Some of you with a bit more experience at vDip can clue me in here.

How does vDip currently adjudicate when more than one player meets the SC requirement for victory simultaneously? More details below.

While I'm going through the long slog of rebuilding Sengoku...
...any interest in a vDip implementation of my most recent, and arguably best balanced variant that rolled off the assembly line before my last long Dip sabbatical?

Thanks ubercacher - players definitely needed too. I know some are not a fan of five player variants (as the new Sengoku is shaping up to be) so I wanted to give them something a little more familiar as well. Balkans1860 is almost a pure map transplant of Standard, seven players, and almost zero special territories/variant rules.

Nice. Are the realpolitik-files on http://nairenvorbeck.angelfire.com/ the current version or are there newer files needed?

What icons should I use? And do you prefer some special colors for the countries? You can check the different variant on the site to get some ideas.
BenjaminHester (1035 D)
Thu 14 Sep UTC
Balkans1860 is fine using standard icons I think, close enough to the WW1 era. Any high contrast colors should be fine, I think this is more or less what I had (sticking to Standard where relevant):

Italy - Green
Austria-Hungary - Red
Ottomans - Yellow
Serbia - White
Greece - Blue
Romania - Orange
Bulgaria - Teal/Cyan

There used to be some thematic icons that someone made for Sengoku (I still see them in some records of old games on diplomaticcorp.com) but for the life of me, I have no idea where those went. I like the ones y'all have in use for Sengoku on here now though.

Ben, looking to get another Balkans 1860 game going for you. This one is fast paced, no press, and unrated for a focus on some quick tactical analysis, and comparison to your expectations.

Awesome, thanks! There have been quite a few PBEM games elsewhere (e.g. dc288 on diplomaticcorp.com) most of which (encouragingly) had very different outcomes. Looks like there will be three running on here, interested to see what early alliances the players choose to form.

Many thanks for the new game here.
Been looking at your new varient and think the start up unit type needs to be on the varient page. This info is quite important when thinking of strategies, and choosing your country if that's an option.

Hi Strider - I'll ask Oli about that, but in the meantime the link on the variant page has that info, both on the map graphic and in text:

obsolete Sengoku variant
Hi all, designer of Sengoku here. I would love to get the latest version of Sengoku in use on this system, as it is much more balanced. Found here: http://dipwiki.com/index.php?title=Sengoku
Even if the DP system, can't be used, the version at http://nairenvorbeck.angelfire.com/ is still better than the one in use currently. Poor Mori needs a fair chance :-) Anyone willing/able to help me get these implemented?

1900 for vDip: Progress Report (ongoing)
As mentioned in another thread, I've been working on the code and assets necessary to port Baron M. Powell's variant 1900 to vDip and/or webDip.

In order to keep myself accountable in some fashion to actually complete this task, and not just talk about it, I've created a small project plan where I can mark my progress.

Is England* vs Turkey truly balanced?
The stats spread on England* vs Turkey is innocuous enough. England* wins 55% of games which do not end in a draw, Turkey wins 45%. England is favored, but not to the extent that Turkey can't win; the game is not balanced, but it also isn't drastically skewed either way.

However, I have recently encountered an opening from England that I'm struggling to counter as Turkey.

Force drawn games
Games with fixed end year are (for ranking purposes) treated like solo victories for the power with the largest SC tally (even when PPSC scoring is used). Is that intentional? Not that I think it matters much to me, but I do find it rather odd, it would seem like the more logical approach would be that they are treated as force drawn, or possibly use affect ranking differently depending on scoring system used.
