23 Jan 13 UTC | Spring, 2000: (BJearles): All Spiderwebbers welcome. :) |
23 Jan 13 UTC | Spring, 2000: (Nioca): Hiya. |
23 Jan 13 UTC | Spring, 2000: (BJearles): We got one. :) Hey there. |
23 Jan 13 UTC | Spring, 2000: (Nioca): So do we need all player slots filled, or will it start if we're missing players? |
23 Jan 13 UTC | Spring, 2000: (BJearles): All players, I'm afraid. We only need six total. Here's hoping there's enough interest. |
23 Jan 13 UTC | Spring, 2000: (Nioca): Ooh, a newcomer. Welcome, slayer of mosquitos! |
23 Jan 13 UTC | Spring, 2000: Good luck everyone, and have fun. :) |
23 Jan 13 UTC | Spring, 2000: Hi. I'm looking for an ally. I'm also a Diplomacy addict and can't stop. |
23 Jan 13 UTC | Spring, 2000: hello all, since it's my first game, please excuse me if I do something really stupid. |
23 Jan 13 UTC | Spring, 2000: (Mosquito---Slayer^^) |
23 Jan 13 UTC | Spring, 2000: That's okay, Mosquito-Slayer. We all had first games too. :) If anything doesn't make sense, feel free to ask. |
23 Jan 13 UTC | Spring, 2000: Dang. It'd be possible to win this one through raw naval power. Most of the supply centers are coastal. |
23 Jan 13 UTC | Spring, 2000: Kind of interesting that only one country with two fleets though. Everyone else has two armies and a one fleet. |
23 Jan 13 UTC | Spring, 2000: Yeah, and that same country is the Russia of this map (i.e. is starting with four). o_o (Not actually overly concerned, because the extra SC is likely to help make up for the fact that Merseyside's starting position is awful) |
23 Jan 13 UTC | Spring, 2000: (No offense to Merseyside meant. :P ) |
23 Jan 13 UTC | Spring, 2000: I concur with Nioca's assessment. Merseyside probably needs the extra SC just to survive. |
23 Jan 13 UTC | Spring, 2000: The South Coast territory seems like a crucial territory to control, much like the Black Sea in the regular map. Cornwallis is an odd SC because Wales and Bristol could both make a scramble for it, but it's in an unusual position in terms of defense. The Isle of Wight is odd as well because both Bristol and London can reach it by the first Autumn, but not if they bounce in Hampshire...but having an army in the Isle of Wight at the beginning seems like a lame duck kind of move. Interesting. |
23 Jan 13 UTC | Spring, 2000: Cornwall's out of the way if you're waging a land battle, but if you're fighting a naval campaign on the west side, it's crucial. It's one of only three territories (the others being the English Channel and the North Sea) that allows fleets into the western seaboard. So long as they could dedicate the fleets to it, a player could completely blockade the western coast and oceans. |
23 Jan 13 UTC | Spring, 2000: Oh dear, I didn't even notice the North Atlantic/North Sea connection. The variant info does not say that Northumberland is connected in such a manner, so it seems that the connection is easy to defend. |
23 Jan 13 UTC | Spring, 2000: I'm going to be away for dinner for a few hours. |
