15 Jul 17 UTC [CSA]:Probably shoulda done something about Austria, eh? Good game.
15 Jul 17 UTC [Japan]:Congrats, Austria.

@CSA : Yes, you should cooperate with Britain rather bugging Britain all the time.
15 Jul 17 UTC [Japan]:Sorry, at the end of the game when Prussia just fell.
15 Jul 17 UTC [Austria]:Thanks for the game everyone. I'll try to offer some end of game feedback as I get time. I am on vacation for a couple weeks, which had me pressed for time. I was really starting to make mistakes.
15 Jul 17 UTC [Prussia]:I guess I should've yes CSA. I was just trusting that an alliance meant an alliance. Admittedly I've lost a few games the same way.
GG Austria, destroyed me
15 Jul 17 UTC [Britain]:GG all, well played Austria. "Vive le Quebec libre." (Within a framework of global Austrian hegemony unfortunately...).

CSA, I had hoped you would back off Quebec early enough to let me swing some fleets over to defend the British Isles, but you were very persistent until almost the very end. In any case Austria had a ton of fleets and Prussia couldn't hold the North Sea as I'd hoped (or maybe he was hoping I would, perils of a gunboat game).

Prussia, I really wish you hadn't gone after Norway; I was ready to sit pat in the North Atlantic area in order to eventually cooperate with you against the growing Austrian threat.

I knew Austria would be trouble once he'd built a ton a fleets in the Mediterranean, ready to pour out into the Atlantic after the French were defeated. A combination of Turkey giving up, me attacking France early, and that nice dense cluster of European centres made for a very nice position. Once Austria starting building fleets in Cairo things were looking grim. Austria was coming at me from both sides!

France and Holland: we fought hard, and clearly it hurt us all. I'd decided early on to go at both of you hard to try and knock out some early prime competitors, and hopefully establish a good Indian Ocean base. But France and Holland just have too many expansion options to ward off a quick collapse (especially Holland). Also maybe it was crazy to go after the two stongest powers; it certainly opened the game up for some other powers.

I'd hoped China would help keep the Japanese at bay and poke at the French in Indochina, but that didn't work out either. When Austria was breaking into the Middle East and eastern seas, I made an attempt at backing off Holland to hopefully ally. But maybe revenge was in the air, and Austria also smartly let Holland keep his African centres temporarily while Japan and Holland collapsed my Indian empire. At that point I knew I had to let Japan take most of the spoils in order to provide a credible balance against Austria while I tried to survive in the North Atlantic.

In North America I had no ambitions, hoping to foster an alliance with the USA, and containing Russia as best I could (both in NA and elsewhere). I figured a weak Russia would mean a strong China and Prussia, which would be good against Japan and France. Further south I'd hoped Brazil would also be an ally, to poke at France in the South Atlantic and Pacific. I did my best to help him take and keep the Falklands against Holland. Mexico and then CSA proved too big a distraction though. I also caught a Brazilian order late in the game supporting Austria into one of my Atlantic area fleets... guess he was trying to woo the big baddie! No alliance there...

It's a strange feeling, having so many more centres than everyone in the mid game, and yet feeling... quite vulnerable. Not like the Austrian hedgehog. And split into effectively two nations. The Indian empire, since I never could deal with Holland decisively, was never safe, and surrounded by threats. It's probably better for Britain in this variant if they can built a North American base, or maybe an Australian one... something near an edge, and not surrounded. Once I started shrinking I was worried I was on a quick path to elimination.

It was a very interesting game. I guess it's never boring for Britain in this variant.
15 Jul 17 UTC [CSA]:yes this was definitely fun. I think i assumed i could push Britain out of the western hempisphere quickly to counter austria but that never happened. Good for you Britain -- well played. Your starting position was difficult to defend. I think I also assumed that Japan was big enough to contain Austria -- a miscalculation on my part. Austria seized some important, impossible to take sea territories late that basically made his position intractable.
15 Jul 17 UTC [Brazil]:gg everyone
