27 Dec 10 UTC Spring, 1901: hello @all.
one stupid question from me in the case that I missed something important in the forum:
The name of this game in paranthesis (war declaration match). Does this mean that we MUST declare war before we attack another nation? This question might considered to be stupid but I'm just asking because on the previous webhost version of Olidip.net we have started a couple of team games with special rules. Those rules of course could not enforced by the engine but were based on mutual acceptance and reliability of each player. Is this also the case in this game?
27 Dec 10 UTC Spring, 1901: Okay: I just found the forum entry. This answeres my question. But I have one more question: What moves are considered to be aggressive enough that you need a war declaration? Or the other way arround: What aggressive moves are allowed without violating the "war declaration" rule?
27 Dec 10 UTC Spring, 1901: I'm not the authority on this but I would say that taking someone else's supply center, whether intentionally or not (don't ask me how you could do it unintentionally, but either way it's not a valid excuse :D) or supporting someone else into someone's supply centre would be considered an aggressive act. Furthermore entering someone's territory (initial coloured areas) or coastal waters (waters adjacent to their homeland territories) is considered aggressive. There are a few mutual home waters such as the Black Sea and Adriatic Sea. One additional thing: alliances and non aggression pacts (as well as demilitarized zones?) are declared. These rules are not enforceable, but player honour, and the fact that this game is not anonymous, should help with that. Does anyone have anything to add?
27 Dec 10 UTC Spring, 1901: Ow, bright yellow text! :P
27 Dec 10 UTC Spring, 1901: Well, I will say in my green text that the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Adriatic Sea belong to Italy, and anyone who enters these waters will have war declared on them!
27 Dec 10 UTC Spring, 1901: Uh-oh. I just realized who is Russia and now know the Czar is in control. :)
27 Dec 10 UTC Spring, 1901: Thanks, that helps a lot understanding the rules. But one final question concerning this forum post:
"Remember in this version of the rules you must declare war one turn (6 months) before you attack...". Does it mean that I declare war to s.o. and than give the orders to attack him. Or does it mean that a very full turn lengh (24h) here must pass? I have the following problem. If I declare war and then automatically are allowed to attack within the same turn, there still exists the possibility to stab s.o. - at least technically - by waiting till one minute before the execute and then declare war. If this happens, all the rules of declaration are obsolete. So, how do you understand this rule?
27 Dec 10 UTC Spring, 1901: You must declare war, and then wait one turn, and then attack, eliminating stabs.
27 Dec 10 UTC Spring, 1901: A very nice.
27 Dec 10 UTC Spring, 1901: Okay, but now I have (again) a final question: what happens if I set up a treaty/declaration into the global, that states the following:
"My country declares itlself as the protector of (e.g.) Iceland. Every nation that attacks and conquers Iceland automatically declares itself as an enemy of my country. My country will then automatically declare war to that country that attacks Iceland."
I post this declaration into the global chat. Then everybody knows that an assault of Iceland will be responded by my county with war.
My problem is now if the "wait-one-turn-then-attack-rule" after the declaration of war still holds. Because it should be abolutley clear that my country has bounded itself to declare war to the aggressor of (e.g.) Iceland. In this case, I should be allowed to attack immediatly in the next turn. Because it is no stab any more.
27 Dec 10 UTC Spring, 1901: I call this the "triggered" declaration of war. The annoucement of this trigger fullfills the "wait-one-turn-then-attack-rule". The actual moves not.
27 Dec 10 UTC Spring, 1901: I believe that case is the exception if the wait one turn rule, anyways, just as a reminder, the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Adriatic Sea are Italy's waters. War will be declared on anyone who passes these waters. (This is not an example, but an actual declaration.)
27 Dec 10 UTC Spring, 1901: Okay. I understand. Every nation that moves into Adriatic Sea and Tyr automatically declares war to Italy. Italy is then allowed to attack directly the next turn. Same is true for my "triggered" war declaration. All right. Let's Play :D
27 Dec 10 UTC Spring, 1901: The most noble Czar of all the russias declares Rumania to be a russian protectorate, any nation that violates the integrity of Rumania will be considered an enemy of the Russian Empire, most glorious Russian troops will be entering the country shortly, that is all comrades
27 Dec 10 UTC Spring, 1901: The Sultan presides over the diplomatic conference: Salam and well met, my good fellow rulers. I wish to declare the will of the people of Cyprus and Crete to abide under Turkish rule, as expressed by their respective governors. Any violation of these wishes will result in an immediate and powerful response from the glorious Turkish army. Furthermore the Greek people have declared their wish to be reconciled to the Turks and abide under the fair and just rule of the Sultan. That is all, and may God shine his favour on the friends of the Turkish empire.
27 Dec 10 UTC Spring, 1901: The King of Italy has declared that Sardinia, Sicily, and Tunisia as Italian protectorates and invading these areas immediately results in a declaration of war against the attacker by the Italian Empire.
28 Dec 10 UTC Spring, 1901: The French Republic wishes to give our dear Napolean a respectable burial in his native Corsica. We hearby declare this sovereign French soil and consider a move to it, the Gulf of Lyon or the Western Mediterrean an act of war.

Similiarly the warm peaceful waters off our west coast is needed exclusively for our bourgeois bathers. Any attempts to disrupt their frolicking in the Mid Atlantic will be looked upon with great displeasure by M. Presidente.

Our French speaking cousins in Belgium have personally raised with us their desire to reunite under the tricolour. We respect their wishes and expect all others in Europe to do the same if they wish to avoid bloodshed.

Finally the French Republic and the English king have declared that La Manche will be a demilitarized waterway for the foreseeable period.

Viva La France!
28 Dec 10 UTC Spring, 1901: The King of Italy and M. Presidente have also declared their mutual respect and deep admiration for their two great nations and hearby declare a Treaty of Peace and Mutual Defense in the unfortunate event that a hostile aggressor threatens either party.

Viva La France!
28 Dec 10 UTC Spring, 1901: The Sultan presides in the diplomatic assembly: Salaam, fellow leaders. The great Czar of Russia and I have agreed henceforth to avoid all hostilities between our great nations. An act of war against one is considered an affront on both, and will be dealt with by the sharpest retaliation. Thank you.
28 Dec 10 UTC Spring, 1901: Bonjour dirigeants collègues,

I have heard word from the King of Italy and he's informed me that His Holiness is the rightful ruler of Italy. Being a good Catholic I payed homage to the Holy Father and he has warmly embraced our grande alliance.

Viva la France et l'Italie!
