19 Feb 21 UTC Autumn, 1741: GameMaster: Someone has taken over Prussia replacing "adityapgupta211". Reconsider your alliances.
15 Mar 21 UTC Autumn, 1748: GameMaster: Piedmont-Sardinia voted for a Draw. If everyone votes Draw the game will end and the points are split equally among all the surviving players, regardless of how many supply centers each player has.
07 Apr 21 UTC Autumn, 1754: GameMaster: Someone has taken over Austria replacing "Diggs". Reconsider your alliances.
03 May 21 UTC Well, that ends it. Congrats Russia. A bit sad that Bavaria gave up in the end but I still think you would have won in the long run.
Thanks to all
03 May 21 UTC I gave up because during the entire game almost everyone was helping Russia. By the time Russia bordered me, I had no chance. All the others were also after me because Russia was so hard to reach. I was in the middle, an easy target. Still, I am happy with my performance through most of it. England, you did fight Russia. If I could have gotten into the North Sea, perhaps we could have done something together. France, you fought well.
03 May 21 UTC I was also surprised that Italy helped Russia instead of fighting him after Turkey was defeated. So i also gave up and turned against Italy.
03 May 21 UTC I blame Austria ... I tried to help when Russia attacked but he didn’t fight back
03 May 21 UTC Yeah at the end there when Russia retreated out of Bavarian lands I was worried they would eliminate me before winning
03 May 21 UTC Spain, like why didnt you fight Russia, this is WTA so taking out Piedmont does not give you any benefit
03 May 21 UTC I hope you blame previous Austria, my friend, and not me
03 May 21 UTC I actually felt a little bad with this win - I was trying to get the win only against England (a fighting player) and have France eliminate Bavaria, as someone who gives up doesn't even deserve a survive. But I don't think France understood that until this past turn, and I had a change of heart and didn't want to punish England for actually playing the game as it should be played.

Bit of a confusing start to this one - as I got very lucky with Prussia missing the beginning, but also very unlucky because the Ottomans weren't attacking Austria like I wanted them to. (Seriously, davec, I had wanted to Jugg) Then I thought England was going down, so wanted a piece, but France just....didn't take the free London? France's play was confusing for a good while, and really screwed me in the north.

I thought I'd be stuck in my turtle shell for a while in 1744, but then Austria just...abandons the line and then doesn't defend Silesia. England and I form a nice alliance for a little bit. I thought for sure he'd try for Berlin, but he just...didn't. And for whatever reason Spain decides its a good time to attack England...even when the Ottomans are attacking them. Either way, the whole situation really killed any idea of an alliance with England for me because they just weren't going to be able to support me. And I wanted Norway back. Fortunately, best friend Bavaria decides that's a good time to attack Austria, and Ottomans back off the line in fall 1747.

And really that's what solidified my position. Spain attacking England and Bavaria attacking Austria....coupled with Ottomans just refusing to take Sardinia and get serious in the Med. I mean Sardinia was guaranteed in 1746 and somehow it takes until 1749 for it to fall....by which point I'm in the Black Sea. Why you didn't build fleet Bulgaria, I don't know.

I had also wanted to wait for Piedmont-Sardinia to be eliminated, but again didn't want to be rude and drag things out.

Overall though a lot of passive play from a lot of people, and some odd build decisions - really hampered a lot of powers. I think England and France had the most consistent gameplan all game and more or less stuck to it.
03 May 21 UTC Also I will say that following the Ottoman defeat, Spain had an *extremely* short window of opportunity to attack me. He pretty much had to do it the next turn, otherwise he would've been too late.

In fact, given the lack of cooperation from Piedmont-Sardinia, I would say it was impossible for Spain to do anything. He would've been better off sending fleets north.
03 May 21 UTC I don't really agree with you Spain. And thanks England for pointing out the obvious.
I have never been in a situation to fight against Russia, too many armies, not enough fleets. And the narrow corridor of Venice did not allow me to wage a war against me.
As for you Spain, you have been pretty consistent in taking one by one my SCs with no attempt to disturb, even a little bit, Russia.
I think your comment is harsh, and maybe misplaced. And you might have a look in the mirror...
That said, you have fought well and overwhelmed me, can't deny it. T'was hard to be sandwiched between you, the Ottoman, and to worry about the expansionist Bavaria at the same time
03 May 21 UTC Summed up pretty nicely tbf, gg :)
03 May 21 UTC That's a nice sum up Russia. Although I disagree with your line about my "lack of cooperation". I have had no allies the entire game, (maybe a non agression with France?), so I could'nt really "cooperate" with anyone.
03 May 21 UTC @Piedmont - why build the army in Savoy in 1743 and not a fleet in Papal States? Fleet East Coast there changes your game. Or once in Carinthia in 1749 you surely saw the option to move to Dalmatia and strike the Ottoman rear. And after 1756 you also had a build you didn't use.
03 May 21 UTC And I only meant the lack of cooperation line in the context of stopping the solo, in a hypothetical where Spain moves to contest the Balkans
03 May 21 UTC 1743: Because I couldn't. Papal States is not a home SC. I craved all the game for a second fleet, believe me.
1749: I had a beach head in Carinthia, true. But I also had three Bavarian armies up north, and possibly Ottoman could come back east with his fleets. And even if I pushed in the Balkans, took a SC, it would have been undefendable while weakenning my peninsula. At least I evaluated the situation like this. And it wasn't clear yet that you would swallow up the east.
1756: Saved that build for a fleet because that's what I needed.
03 May 21 UTC Ah, I hadn't taken note of which SCs were home centers
04 May 21 UTC Bavaria was about to eliminate me and I managed to resist because, luckily, Spain did not finish me. I only played one game in defense, I couldn't do anything else. I also tried to help England (that's why I didn't take London) and in the end, I didn't counterattack Bavaria because, having no hope of victory, I hoped that, all together, we would be able to block Russia. Little conscious hope!
