They swiftly install collaborationist Omar Torrijos (then a 31 y/o Major in the National Guard) as the Prime Minister of the proclaimed People's Republic of Panama (led by the eponymous People's Party of Panama, founded in 1930).

October, 1960: Roughly a year before the scheduled 22nd Congress of the Communist Party of the USSR, the Tsar Bomba ("AN602" hydrogen bomb) is detonated in air above Sukhoy Nos. It is the most powerful nuclear weapon ever tested. A fleet in the Arctic Ocean (as well as a US reconnaissance aircraft deployed from allied West Canada) observes the detonation from a safe distance.

November, 1960: NATO refuses to withdraw its forces from Germany as per USSR ultimatum. A military stand-off ensues along Checkpoint Charlie. The "Berlin Crisis" remains unresolved. First Secretary Walter Ulbricht (GDR) receives approval from Khrushchev to build the Berlin Wall. Plans of its construction are intercepted by US intelligence (the Berlin Watch Committee).

As Soviets rush into West Germany and succeed in occupying it entirely, they neglect the East and find themselves surrounded. The Volkswagen factories, the phonograph records playing the Beatles, the jeans... the East Germans are processing it all with enthusiasm.

October, 1961: Martial law in the Russian SFSR, as a Maoist rebellion assumes control surreptitiously. The nomenklatura evacuates to Leningrad, with a Plan B to Anadyr. The KGB staff are punished severely for not intercepting the coup.

November: 1961: Cubans land on Florida! The descendants of the Batista regime, thinking foolishly that they have found refuge in Miami, are persecuted thoroughly again. Cuban morale is at the highest it's ever been, but tensions increase near the Panama Canal. The Americans get their first taste of true freedom...
