12 Feb 24 UTC Good game. I really liked the way everyone readied up.
12 Feb 24 UTC Yes, very quick turns at the end. Congratulations, France.

I was a bit of a spoilsport in this one - I successfully defended against Italy’s Lepanto and crippled their early expansion, and then turned on Russia at the perfect time to ruin their solo chance. Those situations contributed heavily to the eventual French solo.

It’s unfortunate that we weren’t quite able to pull off the stalemate at the end. I started supporting Italy & Russia as soon as I saw the first Italian disband, knowing France was likely on a solo path, but Russia understandably needed some time to trust me after my early betrayal. The mishap in 1911 in Ukraine didn’t help matters, either - I was intending to move excess armies up to help defend, but I’m sure it looked like an attack.

Good game, everyone.
12 Feb 24 UTC GGs all. While I might not have been able to help us into a draw position, at least I didn't support the fate of E/G/A.
As soon as I realized that France had taken out England by being in the Norwegian Sea, I knew they were on the solo path too, which is why I tried to be friendly with Turkey. But then a turn later, they went into Armenia, so I had to be aggressive on that front. I thought the move to Ukraine was a second invasion attempt, but there wasn't much I could do at that point with France encircling me on the north.

Playing Russia is interesting on this map; you definitely need some good luck at the start but with FoW it's possible to get a draw or solo for sure. I almost reached that point, I think having 10 SCs at my peak, but then France started steamrolling me and Turkey attacked my south. It's an interesting mechanic for sure, but I prefer Classic a bit more than this one just because of the early game luck => solo probability.
