1900 for vDip: Progress Report (ongoing)

As mentioned in another thread, I've been working on the code and assets necessary to port Baron M. Powell's variant 1900 to vDip and/or webDip.

In order to keep myself accountable in some fashion to actually complete this task, and not just talk about it, I've created a small project plan where I can mark my progress.

Taking over Civil Disorders should be free of charge

Reasoning: the player who takes over a Civil Disorder is not just putting themself in a precarious position (as they must evaluate everybody's styles and strategies) but they are also saving the game's balance and fun.

In order to reward/incentive people to take more CDs, I believe that making it free of charge (rather than current 50% discount) would be for the best. Thoughts?

Cold War Tournament

I am looking to start a rated Cold War tournament consisting of group and knockout stages. Groups of 4 will face each other twice, once as each country. The top two (or three, pending interest) from each group will move on to the knockout stage, with each matchup lasting two games. Users will play as each country once. If tied 1-1, an additional two games are played until a winner is determined.

CountrySwitch

Hi, if I use countryswitch in a non anonymous game, will the temporary players ID be visible instead of mine? The question in another way: will the other players see that the owner is temporarily another player?

Feature Request: Friends List

Similar to how the site already has functionality for muting and blocking other players, we should be able to add them to a friends list so that tracking them down to send PMs is more convenient. It would also make hosting games with players you know you enjoy playing with much easier. I don’t believe that this feature is currently in the issue tracker, and it seems like it would be very easy to implement given the current muting and blocking features already in place.

If no one would have any objections, I'd volunteer as the GM for this tournament.

A few things that need to be taken care of:

- Randomizing empires. This can be done manually but perhaps even easier if we could use d-ice's randomizer. I shall drop him a message

- Creation of games. I can create them but I will send a message to Doc to ensure that it goes correctly in terms of anonymity and empire division.

- How many games we play at once. YCHTT would prefer running them all at once and so do I (mostly to avoid the tournament becoming passive if it drags on too long). Ubercacher would prefer a staggered start. Thus i'd suggest the other participating players also state their preference.

Please let me know if i have forgotten something. In any case:

I mean for any variant with 8 or fewer nations, uber. When you start getting to 9 to 15 games at once, then it's better to split it. But Fog, Sengoku, Ancient Med, Balkans... They are all runnable with 100% of the games running concurrently.

You can GM, BobRoss, but you can't have access to any of the nation assignments outside your own if you are in it. That's an unfair advantage.

Completely agreed YCHTT, that's why I reached out to doc to ensure my GM position would not accidentally give me information that I am not supposed to have ;-) (as it would be my first GM experience)

I have also sent a message to d-ice to see if he could adapt the randomizer for this variant. If that's a green light we only have to find an independent (non-participating) player to do the randomisation and send us all our nation assignments.

D-ice will be adding the Balkan 1860 variant to his randomizer, for which I am very grateful. Now we only have to find someone who doesn't mind spending a few minutes randomizing the empires and sending each player their respective assignments for each game. The randomizer will be adapted later today and I will create the games shortly.

So, any volunteers outside of this tournament who can do the nation assignments for us?

All the games have been created and I just sent the link of the randomiser to Abadu. I will now send the links to the games to each player in a PM and Abadu will send you your order of empires later in a separate PM.

If everything goes as expected, the tournament shall be running really soon. Considering the majority of people preferring to run all 7 games at once, we will do so.

In the 2nd Ancient Med, we have the final results. All 5 games have ended and the clear winner is Ender.

I'll let someone else compute the exact points, but here is how things ended...

I reckon we just fill 7 and then whoever is the poorest tells us how many points the bet is. If everyone has enough points, then I reckon 30 per game is OK.
