More scoring confusion
We had a game end in a draw and the points split equally, but then no one's score (win or lose) changed. ie. I won 12 D points and my score went from 1571(v) -> 1571 (v). Since the help pages are "for our sister site and don't apply here", can someone explain what's going on here? ID: 59410

Speed Europa Retreat Option Fix
So I am in the middle of a Speed Europa game. I was forced to retreat from Barent's Sea and the options I was given were Iceland, North Atlantic Ocean, and Serbia. Siberia borders Barent's Sea but Serbia does not (as you can probably imagine). I retreated to Serbia thinking that maybe it was a typo and I would retreat to Siberia. But I did in fact retreat to Serbia, with a fleet! So if somebody knows how to fix this, that'd be great. The game name is: Speed Europa Gunboat

In most cases you'll end up with a dead ant well before it reaches the end, though.

An ant starts to crawl along a taut rubber rope 1 km long at a speed of 1 cm per second (relative to the rubber it is crawling on). At the same time, the rope starts to stretch uniformly by 1 km per second, so that after 1 second it is 2 km long, after 2 seconds it is 3 km long, etc. Will the ant ever reach the end of the rope?

No.

Yes.
Yoshimon (577 D)
13 Dec 18 UTC
What?
Yes, the ant will reach when time and rope length reaches infinity but only if the ant lives an infinite life span.

This doesn't work, however, if the rate of expansion is an accelerated one (Dt^2) or if the ant has a limited life span.

I really like the maths. Keep it up guys!
Dejan0707 (1986 D)

At first consideration it seems that the ant will never reach the end of the rope, but in fact it does. (In the form stated above, it would take 8.9×1043421 years.) Whatever the length of the rope and the relative speeds of the ant and the stretching, providing the ant's speed and the stretching remain steady the ant will always be able to reach the end given sufficient time. Once the ant has begun moving, the rubber rope is stretching both in front of and behind the ant, conserving the proportion of the rope already walked by the ant and enabling the ant to make continual progress.

Kevin made a really nice video on this topic (ant on rubber rope) a few weeks ago:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OM9KepKsg6U
They key to the math problem is an ever increasing percentage of the rope gets covered so more and more of the increased length is behind the ant. Once he reaches the mid point, more stretch occurs behind him that in front. Additionally, each step, while a smaller over all percentage is more than half the previous times coverage so the ant can achieve half the length at which point success is inevitable. Let's say the ant rate was 1 unit per and the rope stretch was 2 per. After the first stretch the ant travels 1/4 the distance. Then 1/6th then 1/8th. He has crossed the halfway point.

If you have the rope accelerate, however, the ant won't achieve 50%. For instance, if the rope doubles it's length every unit, the ant covers half the relative distance of the previous move. 1/4, 1/8, 1/16. So the ant only reaches the mid point at infinity.
Further more, if the ant moves first and achieves mid point in the accelerated scenario then the aunt achieves completion at infinity.

In other words, no. The ant will never reach the end of the rope.

Also, ants are not points. Ants can't stretch like this at 1km/s without dying:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OM9KepKsg6U&t=239s

Your math teacher lied to you.
Mercy (2131 D)

According to my calculations, in general the ant will reach the end of the rope after (e^(u/v) - 1) / u units of time, where v is the speed of the ant, u is the speed at which the rope is stretched, and speed is measured in original length of the rope per units of time.

@JECE "Also, ants are not points. Ants can't stretch like this at 1km/s without dying"
The ant does not stretch at 1 km/s, the rope it is sitting on does. In fact, I have the suspicion that the speed at which the ant itself crawls - which is in this case 1 cm/s - always upper limits the speed at which the stretching of the rope can cause the ant to move.
Mercy (2131 D)
17 Dec 18 UTC
Okay forget that last thing that I said, though it may apply to acceleration.
Mercy, JECE was being funny. His video proves the ant achieves his goal of string domination.

Game is listed as PPSC, but awarded 13 points (40/3) to each person.

Variants to Include in a Printed Collection
Several variant creators in the community are looking to create a curated collection of variants. The idea is that groups in the hobby will be able to have this collection printed and shipped to them. That way, the hobby can have easy access to alternatives to playing modifications of the Classic board if they can't get exactly 7 players to meet.

I soloed two times in Classic, and each gave me about 200 points, and this variant has 17 players, so I thought it'll be about 450 points or so. Now I get 861 points and reach #21. So how ranking changes are calculated?

Applying to be a mod for private games
Hi, I have introduced my colleagues to Diplomacy and we all love it. However, for the next time we play, it would be great to be able to play with faster turns, but pause it over weekends and evenings.
Is there any way to get mod privileges without taking part in dozens of private games?

ER Team Game Revival
Hey Folks! I was recently thinking about the Europa Renevatio Team game we did a couple years ago and I think we can do it again, better this time. Among the improvements, it may be ideal to determine the teams ahead of time and make them public so we can try to come up with a "balanced" set of 9 teams of 4. Would anyone else (err... 35 others?) want to give it a shot?

Any SEA Players? Newbie here looking to find some community!
Hey! I'm Alien, a player based in the Philippines (GMT+8). I got introduced to Diplomacy around this time last year, and I'm finally getting back into the hobby since summer is just around the corner. It's been a struggle finding people to talk to or play with since this hobby isn't the *most* accessible, and most of the players seem to be from the US and EU. Is there anyone from in and around the SEA region looking to link up and organize some games?

IA Map Bugs with New Variant
I've got a variant I'm adding called Incensed. In the playtesting, there are issues with the interactive map. Certain regions work just fine. But there are some regions that don't get highlighted or can't really be clicked on. I'm not sure what the issue is. Seems like it also depends on what browser is being used, too. Any variant creators run into similar issues or know what might be the cause/solution?

The Sandquest
So I've seen some players here go on some grand "quests" I'll say to play every variant on the site. I've decided I want to join the club and do so aswell, but I want to do so with some sort of cool "twist". Trying to solo every variant is a little impractical, and I'm not certain about something super simple like making them all gunboats. So anyone got some ideas?
