Agree completely about the concurrent play. , Dr. Recommended. We really have Amby to thank for that one (dig dig). I wish we had held a stronger line on playing more than 2 games at a time when we started. Sorry to hear that you won't be able to play as much. Sadly all of the veteran players ultimately wind up shifting to gunboat only here. I've see it going on for years, and experienced it myself. Some of it is lifestyle/job changes, but I've managed that for decades, keeping Diplomacy as a constant. Unfortunately with the various problems afflicting the community (chiefly that ratings driving games rather than games driving games) that just go ignored, it's going to continue.

We have 13 signed up for game, and 12 or game 12. We lose a few more for games 13, 14, and 15. I will play these remaining games, but only if we play the remaining 5 games concurrently, and get them started by mid-September. I realize that this is not what we signed up for, but the reality is that the tournament was ruined by playing only to games at a time. If we cannot agree to get this finished by starting up all five games now, then I'm dropping out of the event, and will start recruiting committed players to attempt this concept again. If you guys want to do a 5 game blitz round I'd be prepared to hand my spot over to someone else. Although my preference is to maintain the current format.

Amby I could play either way, but apparently we can’t keep 15 guys around to do that. After 10 gms and 2 yrs invested I just would like to see this tourney completed. Maybe a compromise would be shortening the phases, possibly 1day 12hrs.....any thoughts from the players left on the roster?

Would be strongly against shorter phases. Maybe 36h at the absolute minimum. I'm a lot more likely to have half an hour free to put orders in for 5 gunboat games every couple of days than be able to check and move things every day.

I'm out, sorry. I have decided to take an indefinite hiatus from Diplomacy for IRL reasons.

In light of Ubercacher's decision to opt out, Amby's continued refusal to play more than two games at a time, and several players inability to respond at all, I will again put forward the proposal that we end this event with the completion of Game 9, and attempt to find 15 players seriously interested in playing a KW90115 game event.
