Europa Renavito team game but color coded
Call me crazy, but I have an idea. Ive seen team games done on this map before and they are pretty fun. So I thought up a unique twist to it, all the teams are color coded! (Mostly)

So i went and spent an hour putting together a rough idea to what it could be. 6 teams, relatively evenly spread out, and coded to colors with a few exceptions. Afterall where do you put Morocco the only orange country?

Diplomacy Variant Creation
So I've been in the process of making a Diplomacy Variant. I plan to take the "Europa Renovatio" map and update and expand it. (What I mean to say is, because it's a translation of the EU4 map, it's gone out of date since then.)

About the Colonial 1885 version
Due to the map info it says that the Caspian Sea is a passible place, so it seems that the only possible case is that Russia build a fleet at Orenburg and move it into the Caspian sea. But have anyone ever seen a fleet there? Just curious.

1 hour turns
https://www.vdiplomacy.com/board.php?gameID=65662#gamePanel

I know we arent supposed to talk about ongoing games really, but since this game is a gun boat, this is the only way to do so. Anyways someone made a gunboat game with 1 hour turns... if your in it please vote cancel, cause we all have to sleep eventually right? And once we do, we'll get booted from the game

Thoughts on Gobble-Earth
Not really anything specific, just wondering what most people think of the variant. I know it’s not well-balanced, but to be honest there are much worse variants out there.

Napoleonic Redux Variant
Hi!!! What about to do a REDUX-variation for Napoleonic? With neutrals powers (sc) and possibly holding neutral units? It will be very interesting,I suppose. I have already written to the author Firehawk. Let's see what he will answer. And do you think about this idea?

The Treaty of Verdun
I've heard that it is incredibly hard to make a good map for around three players for instance, the 1066 makes the Norwegians so powerful but somehow the 843: Treaty of Verdun seems like it is almost perfectly balanced. How is this possible? Looking at the map it is quite hard to see symmetry but yet it still works. What makes the Treaty of Verdun different?

I think the middle power is a bit weaker, but it still is pretty balanced. It comes down to how many centers are reachable in the beginning. Everybody has a chance at two neutral centers (well, west has a chance at three but not realistically all at once) and some of the home centers of the others. The first year has either some bounces, which then allow to take neutral centers in autumn, or missing the bounce and ones home centers being in danger - but one also having a shot at somebody elses center. It's a gamble then, but over the different options chances equal out. In 1066 this is not the case, England an Normans are close together and often have to defend home centers (Normans especially, it's very likely that it won't be able to savely take a center in year 1), while Norway can guarantee a center and also be annoying to England. In Verdun, everybody could take from everybody, in 1066 nobody can take from Norway, Norway could take from England. (I played both maps mainly on gunboat. Press probably evens the chances a bit as the two weaker powers can ally against the strongest)

not too familiar with 843, but i can definitely give some insight in 1066

even with the relatively large sea territories, it is difficult for any power to reach Norway scs, england is the only power that can remotely attempt to reach norway but with difficulty, and england and normans will almost always default to fighting each other. Norway has such absurd influence while being difficult to attack
Yeah I did notice the 1066 Norway thing, I've played Norway before but it is very hard to keep gains in England but no one can get near Scandinavia. So, to make a good 3 player game you need to give everyone equal opportunities but do you need to make the game provinces perfectly balanced? (i.e. perfectly symmetrical)

For a 3-player map, if it is really balanced then the game usually ends with a 3-way draw, and that is boring...

For 1066 map, the key point is that England and Normans should defend Norway in a long period of time from the beginning. But sadly few players do so.
Yeah I think you're right @Specialweek, looking at Treaty of Verdun there are only 59 draws versus 512 solos. Is there another map with this few players with almost no symmetry and nearly balanced powers?
as a frequent player in the finkelboat series

i can safely say there's no such thing. the closest thing to a balanced map with no symmetry is atlantic colonies and maybe FGA (if all 3 players have a clue about the map meta). sail ho II has South dominating, and every other map in recent memory that i enjoyed the most are the symmetrical ones, like rat wars and chesspolitik.
Ok, that is also helpful, I am finding it hard to see how see how the overall most balanced three player map is symmetrical though, and also just looking at Chesspolitik, it is definitely balanced but I don't understand why China is rated so well? all the powers are equal!
definitely a position preference and a low sample count. give it 1000 more games and tthe ability for the player to switch map views according to their preferences, and it should be equal.

just look at Duo, the supposedly equal 1v1 game, yet Red has a higher winrate

I believe that the 'position' on the map has something that brings small difference to players' choices. For example, in Alacavre, the 'Germany' has the best performance, comparing with the Classic Germany.

This whole thread just makes me think of a 1984 variant. Oceania, Eurasia, and Eastasia. It would be designed for a balanced gunboat experience. A few neutrals in Africa, maybe 1 in India, and all other centers start under control of the main powers. It would probably be a small map (small as in low center count), and would be designed to have stalemates that are nearly impossible to break without two players completely uniting against the third, or someone making a massive blunder.

Don’t know if it would be any fun, but it could be well balanced especially if it’s accurate to George Orwell’s book.

Missing/Lost Three Kingdoms Map?
According to the Wikipedia page for Diplomacy, there was supposedly a variant called "Diplomacy of the Three Kingdoms". Based on the Three Kingdoms in Ancient China, it was created by Edi Birsan to introduce the basic ideas of the main game to a Chinese audience with a setting more close to their own historical experience. I can't find this game online, and the map isn't on this site. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could play it!

Game Limits and Hot Join
Hello all,
I am new to the platform but I long time Diplomacy Enjoyer. I noticed that I can only join 2 new games having played less than 20 phases. But there does not seem to be a limit to the number of open positions I am allowed to join. Is this intentional?
I appreciate the opportunity to join more games and increase my phases played, but I want to know if I will be able to join more new games once I reach the 20 phase count. Any insight would be appreciated.

How do you achieve a 3-way draw in a game with 85 SC and a solo threshold of 26? This has happened twice in the "Vikings" variant, according to the stats page. https://www.vdiplomacy.net/variants.php?variantID=63
