To Everyone in Furnace of Affliction
I'm really sorry, as I was trying to fix the Indonesia Build bug the game sent everyone into CD and cancelled itself. This was because I forgot about another bug - if you enter all holds, it counts as an NMR even if saved, so when I tried to advance the game 2 phases it assumed everyone had NMR'd twice (even though I'd set hold orders for everyone).

Cross-site advertisement: The Tournament Through Time
Just thought I'd put in a plug for the 2018 tournament that I'm running online over at the PlayDiplomacy forums. I know there are lots of variant players over here on vDip, so you might find one or more of these interesting. (Link will be in the response.)

Joint Victory?
Is it possible to declare a joint victory in the game?
ubercacher16 (2181 D)
06 Aug 17 UTC
Once a number of players in a game have been eliminated then the remaining players can all vote draw and the game will end in a "joint victory" or draw.
ubercacher16 (2181 D)
06 Aug 17 UTC
It does not matter what number it can be anywhere from all the players to just two.
But it only works once all those not part of the alliance are eliminated. You can't have a 3 way alliance win on a concede vote as there are no official alliances in the game.
ubercacher16 (2181 D)
06 Aug 17 UTC
And three people can't all have a "win" result.
ezpickins (1714 D)
07 Aug 17 UTC
Sure they can, if you set the win condition to five on the vanilla map and let everyone except russia take two neutral centers, the six other players will have the "win" state. I'm not quite sure how the game would adjudicate, but it goes by most sc's, then most sc's the previous turn.
RUFFHAUS 8 (2490 D)

No, it is not possible. Diplomacy has one victor. A draw is not a victory.
mouse (1825 D)
07 Aug 17 UTC
What the good doctor said. You can certainly draw the game amongst all surviving members, but that is by definition not a 'victory' - it's a draw.
What would be interesting is to add a variant or option for invisible alliances. When a player declares or cancels an alliance in the system, only they know the setting. If the game reaches the point where every player left has declared an alliance with every other player left, then it ends in an alliance victory. But the players only know who they say are their allies, not if their allies have returned the honor.
Mercy (2131 D)

That is in essence no different than the current draw option with hidden draw votes.
ubercacher16 (2181 D)

The question is what is the difference between "Draw" and "Joint Victory."
Vauban (953 D)
07 Aug 17 UTC
Personally, I consider a "Draw" a victory when the players already agreed that the game will finish as such so they may share its benefits as a "Joint-Victory". But that's just me and I know that many people consider the "Draw" as a "failure" in a way.
ubercacher16 (2181 D)
07 Aug 17 UTC
I don't consider a Draw a failure but sometimes it is kind of stupid if you have a chance to solo.
General Cool (978 D)
07 Aug 17 UTC
I have a question about draws and this seems like the place to ask. When drawing on a WTA game do the players just lose their bet?
ubercacher16 (2181 D)
07 Aug 17 UTC
No, the remaining players split the pot.
Vauban (953 D)
07 Aug 17 UTC
Which is why I like Draws in these cases :-)
ubercacher16 (2181 D)
07 Aug 17 UTC
Yeah, it can end a game that would have gone on for a long time.
G-Man (2466 D)

The object of diplomacy is to 1) solo = win, then 2) draw = better than losing, but not a win, and 3) prevent a solo, which can be done either via draw, or even helping to see a draw through while one takes a loss in the process. In the Diplomacy Rules, there is no such thing as a joint victory.
Nto true, Mercy, as even hidden draw votes reward everyone still "at the table" as it were. Here, the alliance could win if all non-alliance members voted concede.
ubercacher16 (2181 D)

So then it is just like a group concede vote.

@ubercacher "The question is what is the difference between "Draw" and "Joint Victory.""

It's fairly simple. Draw exists, 'joint victory' does not. Though, I suppose, inside the heads of those who attempt to insist that it does, they should be identical?
Rancher (1207 D)
08 Aug 17 UTC
Draws happen all the time in face to face when players get tired out after 7 hours;,in on line version here I prefer draws only when the game has been ruined (or when I'm losing and desperate and can convince the others to do it!!)
The difference is a draw involves everyone remaining. A joint victory would not have to. There could be survivors who didn't partake in the winning alliance.
Mercy (2131 D)
08 Aug 17 UTC
So like ubercacher16 said, then it is just like a group concede vote.
General Cool (978 D)

@Rancher So true, f2f is a completely different beast it seems like when it comes to both communication and endurance.

Common Courtesy?
Over the past few weeks i've noticed that there is an awfully lot of NMR's and CDs happening. Many of these take place in a later stage of the game with no extended phase in place.

In-game messaging with multiple players without Global Chat
Hi everyone,
I was wondering if there is a way to send messages to multiple players without using the Global Chat. It would very practical for players that are in a 2+ people alliances as they don't need to rewrite everything again for each ally. Is there such a thing yet? If not, I hope a developper passes by and makes a note of this. Thanks!

Public messages hidden from non-players
I noticed public messages in games are hidden from non-players, even for finished games. Does anyone know if this was a deliberate decision on vDip? On webDip these are visible to non-players, which is interesting for looking at the player dynamic or end of game commentary.

Quote Association Thread
Hello! I saw a thread like this scrawled on the wall of a Guatemalan insane asylum deep in the jungle primeval. We start with a quote, and you then post the one quote that pops into your mind after you read that quote. The first word is FIRST.

“The key to Springfield has always been Elm Street. The Greeks knew it. The Carthaginians knew it. Now you know it.”

WWII conference room decoration suggestions
I am going to decorate my conference room with a WWII theme. I have a couple of recruiting/propaganda posters and am thinking of putting a big map of the war or a number of individual maps of various theaters basically in their respective areas on a wall. Any suggestions or recommendations on what to buy and where to buy it?
