obsolete Sengoku variant
Hi all, designer of Sengoku here. I would love to get the latest version of Sengoku in use on this system, as it is much more balanced. Found here: http://dipwiki.com/index.php?title=Sengoku
Even if the DP system, can't be used, the version at http://nairenvorbeck.angelfire.com/ is still better than the one in use currently. Poor Mori needs a fair chance :-) Anyone willing/able to help me get these implemented?

Hi Oli - Yes, neutral armies in every non-player owned SC. Perpetual hold orders. No need to lock the pot-type. It is build-anywhere. Thanks!

everything okay with the coastal sea rule? It was intended to make coding for adjudicators and vdip easy, but intentions aren't always reality
Oli (977 D Mod (P))

If I see this correct, coding wise I just connect the coasts of the territories adjacent to these coastal-seas...
you do, sir!

Hi Benjamin.
Coding is nearly done.
Can you please name the countries and what colors to use?

http://www.vdiplomacy.com/sengokunagashinostartbmp.bmp

PS: all neutral-SCs are occupied by a neutral unit, right?
All neutral SCs occupied by a neutral army, yes.
1 - Shimazu, dark green
2 - Mori, dark blue
3 - Oda, dark red
4 - Hojo, tan/brown
5 - Uesugi, purple, or any other contrasting

Thanks!

Colors ok?

PS: Can you send me the rules-text as shown on the map as PM. I'm to lazy to type this again for the rules-page... :-)

The Multiple Coast Adjacency is valid for fleets only. Rules should let it more clear.
CCR (1957 D)
14 Nov 17 UTC
@Ben, are SSJ and NSJ supposed to be adjacent?
Hi CCR - SSJ and NSJ are not adjacent, the title and rules callout is functional for instruction and an impassable space (though it didn't look good in brown :-)

I'm not sure I understand the multiple coast adjacency question, can you please elaborate? If there is ambiguity in the rules, I definitely want to resolve that!
also, I would like to highlight the non-hopelessness of Mori's position ;-)
CCR - Armies may also use the coastal adjacencies, if that is the question. This is to highlight the extreme rarity of large scale naval conflicts in this period, and the regular use of small transports of armies (that in no way constituted fleets.)

For gameplay purposes, I gave the example F Nagato S F Iwami - Tsushima is valid and succeeds in dislodging the neutral army with F Iwami - Tsushima. This move also succeeds if the fleets are replaced with armies, or any mix of fleets and armies. Is that the question?
one final post - may I ask for a few non-gunboat playtests? Of course all playtests are welcome and appreciated (and the game has been tested quite a bit already!) but I won't know for certain if Oda's position in the center is balanced until they can actively negotiate (read, threaten) and play their peripheral neighbors off against one another.
I'll join a full press play test for you, Benjamin.
Thanks YCHTT! Greatly appreciated

All coastal adjacencies should work now.
Make a post in the modforum if you encounter other bugs.

Just a reminder for the "official" handling of bugs in games:
1. If you found a bug and can't enter your (valid) move: We will fix this as fast as possible and extend the current phase of your game, so you can enter the move. Just make sure you have some alternative-orders given, we might not fix the bug in time for the turn processed, and we do not rollback the turn.
2. If you found a player that took advantage of an invalid order: We will fix the bug and reprocess the last turn (if the game did not process and further). The invalid order will be set to "hold".
3. If you found a bug and can enter an invalid move move: We will fix this as fast as possible. Please do not enter this move (see rule 2).

Make sure to link to your game in question, mention the turn/phase and the move that caused the bug.

Is everything OK now with balance and gameplay in variant?

I think we should reduce the amount of Oda's starting SCs to 5.
Benjamin, should I set up a full press game now?

Fullpress Playtest #1 - gameID=33085

Unrated 2 day phases full press Sengoku6.
Yes, please do set up full press games! Thank you!

I will consider Oda's starting SC count (along with position, and any other feedback pertaining to the other player positions) after the playtests, but what I'm seeing thus far certainly does not suggest that is necessary. I am watching Mori most closely at this point to ensure I have done enough to strengthen that position. Most of the games running presently are gunboat/anon though, which favors Oda significantly. (though Mori is flourishing in at least two active games I see!)

BenjaminHester, is variant already released or you are going to make changes?
it's released! I have a Sengoku: Nagashino game created and waiting for players now if you would like to join. Getting some great info from the two games that have completed already, and all the others that I'm spectating. I'm cautiously optimistic that this one is already very close to balanced, if not there already. Oda does not appear overpowered (perhaps in gunboat) and all other positions seem to be getting positive outcomes in at least one or more games. Very excited, I poured a lot of effort into this one.
(I just realized I may have misunderstood Flame's post) - the variant is released for play, but I am certainly open to suggestions for modifications. I don't know that any of my variants are truly considered "final" - maybe Dark Ages.

It's time to talk about Scoring
Hello all!

Let's talk about scoring? More specifically, about whether the dreaded Points Per Supply Center (PPSC) scoring should remain an option?

1 v 1 games on variant maps
I am not a coder (sic) so I was wondering how hard is/was it to code 1 v 1 games? Is it reasonable to think that variant maps (Modern, Ancient Med, etc) could be set up to create 1 v 1 games? The idea of having a larger group of countries to play against each other is intriguing. I just don't know if it possible, or doable.

How old school are you?
I am not very tech savvy so forgive me. I think I started dip on some RSS pages using Netscape at work in maybe 1996(?) does that make sense? All email based through Judges. What were they called? USDJ or something. I remember FROG but they all spoke French. Haha. I used to stand outside my office in the snow smoking a cig with a hand drawn map with about 100 crossing out for each phase using coloured pens. Ah web based interactive maps?!?! Luxury!!!

New Maps
I'm super new to the site and I was curious how new maps were made and/or submitted. I noticed a lot of the maps look a bit old and it got me thinking about what it would take to create a higher resolution version of a game map. Are there certain file formats a map must be in or is this all a responsibility for site admins only? Thanks!

Under the variants, I noticed one called Imperium Diplomacy, but was not able to create a game using this variant. Is it a discontinued variant, or under a different name? It looks like an interesting one, especially the beginning turns.

Custom phase bug
This might be better in the Mods section, but I thouht I'd post here first to see if other users have any input.

I'm trying to create a new game with a custom phase length. When I select "Custom" from the drop-down menu, nothing happens. However, when I select "2 days, 2 hours", I've given the option to input a phase length. Hopefully this is an easy fix.

WWII Update Errors
Hello, I am currently in a game of WWII and I was just informed that it has been updated, "fixing" problems with dual coasts. This supposedly means that Palestine now has two coasts. However, I have a fleet in the Red Sea and it can no longer move to Palestine! Please fix?

Tactics
In year one when you just meeting everyone, maybe there anonymous but for sure you don't know any of them. How do you know who to trust?
They can be lying through their teeth and text doesn't show tone of voice or eye contact so you have no idea. If you believe them they may stab you. If you don't you venture into a DMZ and piss them off. Ask around to others and you get rumors or nothing. This game seems so much better suited to face to face.

Classic Mini-Tourney - Is there interest?
I thought about making a mini-tourney - comprising a single game - using a similar scheme to most Face-to-Face scoring systems.

Basically it'll be a Classic game, running until Fall 1907 and a PPSC structure. The bet would be 100 points - for a ultimate pot worth 700 points.

Unable to enter certain orders. How to contact GM
Can someone help. I am playing one of the odder variants. New for me. I’ve read the variant page repeatedly and seems I ought to be able to enter a certain order. But it’s not available as an option. (Maybe I’m missing something. Or maybe a bug). Emailed the mods. But how do I contact GameMaster min a gunboat game?
Thanks
