how would that work on the forum?

So usually it involves games of varying sizes. Forum mafia in a nutshell is paced at 48 hour day phases and 24 hour night phases. Town aligned players post in the forum about who they think might be the bad guys. The bad guys post and try to blend in. During the day people vote on who to eliminate. At end of day players eliminate someone and learn if they were good or evil.

At night the evil faction of mafia chooses a player to kill.

Mafia win once they have parity
Town wins once they have killed all mafia

Ive been a dedicated member of many forum mafia communities and one of the stigmas people have is that it can create drama or take over a forum. I think it can be free from both of those problems if you have clearly defined rules and it doesnt turn into too radical of setups.

A basic game you can do 11 players
3 mafia vs 8 town
And the town has a cop and a doctor
The mafia has a godfather and roleblocker

Thats a very common setup, and thats pretty much what was ran last time.

I can confirm mafia is fun

The mafia game that I played most is 16 players, with 4 cops and 4 mafias

that is a very good point uber. and since this would be our own house rules we can implement whatever restrictions we want. including perhaps posting limits.if you think something like that would be best. like 50 posts per day phase max. and night chats are closed, so no posting during nights. all of that is things we can do. most communities dont talk at night.

Been watching The Traitors and it sounds very much like Mafia.

yep, the only difference is that there is no internal incentive for the bad guys in mafia to kill each other for prize money. any evil on evil violence is done purely to help one bad guy look good for later on in the game.

MAFIA 2 - SIGNUP

This setup will be 11 players. Role distribution will be:

1x COP
You are the town's COP. You win when the Mafia have all been eliminated or nothing can stop this from happening.
Each night, you may visit a player by PM-ing the GM with the order ##INVESTIGATE <NAME>. Your target will not be aware of your visit. At the end of the night, you will learn the alignment (not the specific role) of that player.

1x DOCTOR
You are the town's DOCTOR. You win when the Mafia have all been eliminated or nothing can stop this from happening.
Each night, you may visit a player by PM-ing the GM with the order ##SAVE <NAME>. At the end of the night, if they have been targeted by the mafia nightkill you will save their life. You will know if you successfully performed a save. Your target will learn of your visit ONLY if you save them. You may not visit the same player on consecutive nights.

6x VANILLA TOWNSFOLK
You are a regular ordinary townsperson. You win when the Mafia have all been eliminated or nothing can stop this from happening.


MAFIA
1x GOON
You are a GOON of the Mafia. You win when the Townsfolk have all been eliminated or nothing can stop this from happening. Each night, you may converse with your team mate(s) [REDACTED] in the Mafia Discord.

1x ROLEBLOCKER
You are a ROLEBLOCKER of the Mafia. You win when the Townsfolk have all been eliminated or nothing can stop this from happening. Each night, you may visit another player, this order is submitted in mafia discord chat. If that player attempts any night actions, they will fail. They will learn that they were roleblocked. If a player did not perform any actions they do not learn they were roleblocked. Each night you may also converse with your team mate(s) [REDACTED] in the Mafia Discord.


1x GODFATHER
You are a GODFATHER of the Mafia. You win when the Townsfolk have all been eliminated or nothing can stop this from happening. If you are visited by a COP you will appear to be aligned with the town. Each night, you may converse with your team mate(s) [REDACTED] in the Mafia Discord.

I would aim for this game happening sometime in June depending on if enough people join. We can run a game with as few as 7, or up to 15 depending on interest.
