Advertise your NON-live games here!
In an effort to compromise the pro-ads versus anti-ads for games: Post here for your non-live games to cut down on the number of ads but still advertise games. Post game link, WTA or PPSC, and the bet. Note: this doesn't count for special rules games.

Forum Bug (the travesty!)
FYI, as soon as I posted my last reply in threadID=3555 (about "Winning"), the thread disappeared for me. I can now only view it logged off.

This is a conspiracy of marmot proportions! But seriously, it is odd and doesn't bode well for the future of the Forum.

Is anyone else having issues with rating? I just finished a game on Empires and Coalitions and dropped 150 points despite being part of a 4-way draw. Would love to hear if this is just a me problem, or if other people are experiencing this.

Europa Renavito team game but color coded
Call me crazy, but I have an idea. Ive seen team games done on this map before and they are pretty fun. So I thought up a unique twist to it, all the teams are color coded! (Mostly)

So i went and spent an hour putting together a rough idea to what it could be. 6 teams, relatively evenly spread out, and coded to colors with a few exceptions. Afterall where do you put Morocco the only orange country?

Anyone willing to take over a game?
Hi,
I recently got a new job that makes communicating on vDip a lot harder and more inconsistent. I'm trying to get out of my daily games since I'm no longer adequately to talk to other people in that timeframe. I've sent a message to the mods, and they've OK'ed it, but need a replacement player for each game. One of them is gameID=67173, where I am the QQ. The other game is an anonymous game. If you are willing to take over, please send me a message.
Thanks,
JG

How should I try to report it?

King, Knights & Knaves game
I remember talk once of a game where there was one player who was the King, several loyal Knights, and several traitorous Knaves. Instead of normal Diplomacy, the goal of the uninformed Knights was to protect the publicly known King, and the goal of the Knaves (who all knew each other) was to eliminate the King. I was curious if anyone knew how this game was organized, the ratio of Knights to Knaves, etc. because I have a group who is very into social deduction games who might like this concept.

SoS scoring
Sorry, I’m sure this is in the forum somewhere but couldn’t find a way to search for it. Why don’t we have SoS scoring here? Someone in my game talked about it like it used to be an option here.
JECE (1534 D)

webDip and vDip forked before the former replaced PPSC scoring with SoS scoring. SoS scoring was never an option here, as you can see for yourself by doing a quick game search:
https://vdiplomacy.net/gamelistings.php?gamelistType=Search

SoS scoring is against the rules, which specify that draws are shared equally, so I'm happy that it's not available.
Sway (1062 D)

I’ll never understand that mindset, that if you don’t like a certain rule or game setting, you don’t want it available to anyone. Which rules is SoS scoring in violation of?

"As soon as one Great Power controls 18 supply centers, it’s considered to have gained control of Europe... ...However, players can end the game by agreement before a winner is determined. In this case, all players who still have pieces on the game board share equally in a draw."

I'm not necessarily opposed to it being an option, but I also think it results in a fundamentally different type of game that I don't enjoy as much, and (IMO) it is a more significant deviation in form from classic than any map or minor movement rule change.
Frozen Dog (2285 D)

I played SoS for the first time in a tournament setting and I found it annoying (but understandable, as it hyper-encourages small power stabbing which can speed up game development)
JECE (1534 D)

Sway, the wording changed slightly in the latest rulebook but Frozen Dog explained it well. It's on the very first page of the rules after the table of contents:

"A game of Diplomacy can end in one of four ways:
1. Control 18 Supply Centers: As soon as one Great Power controls 18 supply centers, it’s considered to have gained control of Europe.
2. Draw Involving All Survivors: All players who still have supply centers agree to share equally in a draw. . . ."

https://renegadegamestudios.com/content/File%20Storage%20for%20site/Rulebooks/Diplomacy/DiplomacyRGS_Rulebook_v6_LR.pdf

To an extent, I sympathize with your point of view. I would love for PPSC scoring to be enabled again on webDip and don't understand why the option is completely disabled over a difference of opinion. But even with vDip being a website for rules variants, I agree with Frozen Dog that SoS scoring goes a step beyond most changes to the rules that variants introduce.

In any case, it's a moot point here on vDip as development has been dormant.

Appreciate the explanation you two. I wish these two sites could merge again. Resolution is better on webdip with more active players and seemingly more active moderation/site management, but this site has the variants. What’s a Diplomacy player to do??
Krzysztof1410 (1888 D)

Most likely, the site will never merge again. They both have developped new features since the fork, and the features seem to be hard to combine. And the site hosts most likely are different so it would be another problem. Etc, etc.. there are multiple problems with merging forks

Technically it wouldn't be much trouble to combine the sites, but I think this place has a bit of a different vibe/culture and probably is happy to run off an old fork/version. If things went south here vDip could be merged into webDip pretty quickly (the whole point of the variant extension system was that variants should be easy to port between sites), especially if it was just running on the webDip infrastructure and not a full database merge.. But I think if it ain't broke don't fix it
kestasjk (0 D)

One thing that is true is that webDip's AI/bot capabilities and point and click UI are built and trained on the classic map, so those functions would be hard to impossible to extend to variants .. Everything else would be pretty straightforward though
JECE (1534 D)

kestasjk: If a merge ever does happen, it would be amazing if the "interactive map" (a vDip point and click UI that works with the classic map and variants) could be ported over as well as another option beside the drop-down menus option and the webDip point and click UI option.

I love the idea of a backstop in case vDip goes belly up (even though I'd feel like a prodigal childreturning to webDip).

Regarding AI-bot capability, to make that functional would be to much to be worth the bother - ands is good to hear that this would be the only hiccup, personally not having bots would not be a barrier to me migrating.

I agree with Kestas, if it's not broken... but with no active development occurring here things are fraying a little, so I really appreciate Kestas' offer of support!
kestasjk (0 D)
21 Jul 26 UTC
Yep yep, always here if needed. It'd be a job merging the databases and features, especially since there are quite a few breaking changes from PHP 7.4 to 8.4, but it'd be a weekend or two of work.

Yeah the interactive React.js map that we use for the classic map wouldn't be feasible for all the variants; it'd take some ability to take a PNG bitmap of a map and convert it to an SVG vector image, and a lot of the UI components and code wasn't built with variants in mind.
What would be a lot more likely and realistic would be to take the canvas based map renderer that's used for the registration challenge and sandbox config, which uses the PNG bitmap maps that are used here but in a client-side way that can render using javascript; this would give the ability to point and click within the existing board page, if not quite as nicely at least more compatible.
JECE (1534 D)
21 Jul 26 UTC
Kestas, I can't tell from your latest post if you are already aware of it, but this was implemented on vDip years ago:
"this would give the ability to point and click within the existing board page"
kaner406 (2197 D Mod (B))
27 Jul 26 UTC
I guess it's got something to do with how the interactive map is coded at webdip atm using SVG image data, as opposed to PNG image data that is used on vDip. Whether or not both systems could be used on the same website is a question beyond my knowledge.

Forza Horizon 6 Quick Challenge Guide With U4GM

Fresh Deals is a handy little task for anyone trying to keep up with the August 4 Festival Playlist in Forza Horizon 6. You do not need to win a race, build a special tune, or spend half an evening hunting for a hidden objective. The whole thing comes down to buying one eligible vehicle from the Aftermarket dealership. If your balance is looking a bit light, it is worth checking your FH6 Credits before setting off, as the shop will not let you complete the purchase without enough funds.

What Fresh Deals Actually Requires

The wording makes this Daily Challenge sound more complicated than it is. Fresh Deals simply asks you to purchase a car from the Aftermarket dealership. It does not matter whether the vehicle is rare, quick, heavily upgraded, or sitting at the bottom of the price list. The important part is the shop you buy it from. A car purchased through the regular Autoshow will not count.

Once the transaction goes through, the vehicle should be added to your garage and the challenge should update. You will receive one Festival Playlist point and 5,000 Credits, which is a fair return for a few minutes of work. That point also helps with the Winter reward track, where the 1982 Lancia 037 Stradale is available at 20 points and the 2020 Ferrari Roma arrives at 40.

Getting to the Right Dealership

The Aftermarket dealership is near Horizon Stadium in the Shimano-yama area. Open the map, move the cursor around the stadium, and look for the dealership marker while the Italian Aftermarket Takeover is active. It is much quicker to set a route first rather than drive around hoping the location appears as you pass by.

When you arrive, enter the marked area and open the vehicle menu. Take a moment to look through the stock before buying anything. The selection rotates, and some of the Italian cars can be difficult to find elsewhere. You may spot a Ferrari or Lamborghini that fits a future event, but there is no need to chase the most expensive option for this task. If you only want the Playlist point, choose the lowest-priced eligible car and keep your Credits for upgrades or other seasonal activities.

A Simple Way to Finish the Task

Start by checking the Festival Playlist to make sure the August 4 objective is available. This avoids a common bit of confusion, especially when several Daily Challenges are shown close together. Then travel to Horizon Stadium and enter the Aftermarket shop. Browse the available vehicles, select one, confirm the payment, and wait for the ownership message to appear.

Do not leave immediately if the menu seems slow. Give the game a few seconds to save the purchase. After that, return to the Festival Playlist and check the challenge tile. In most cases, the point and the 5,000-Credit reward appear almost at once. The new car will stay in your garage, so you can also use it later for free-roam driving, photography, manufacturer events, or a seasonal championship if its class happens to fit.

What to Do if It Does Not Register

Most registration issues come from buying the wrong vehicle in the wrong place. Check that you used the Aftermarket dealership and that the car is visible in your garage. It is also worth confirming that the August 4 Fresh Deals task is active, rather than an older Daily Challenge from the same season.

If everything looks correct but the point has not appeared, drive away from the dealership and open the Playlist again. A short trip through free roam can give the game time to save the transaction. Still no progress? Return to the main menu and reload your session. You can also try entering another online session, then revisit the shop. The same approach helps when the dealership appears to have no stock at all. Leaving the area and coming back later often sorts it out.

Final Thoughts

Fresh Deals is worth doing early because it takes very little effort and gives you steady progress towards the Winter rewards. Buy any eligible Aftermarket vehicle, collect the Playlist point, and keep the new addition in your garage for later use. Once that is done, you can move on to the Lamborghini Weekly Challenge, the Hirosaki Castle Photo Challenge, or the Hokubu Treasure Hunt. Players who are short on time can also look into cheap FH6 Boosting while planning the rest of their seasonal progress, but this particular objective is simple enough to handle on your own.

Choose u4gm.com when you need FH6 Credits, as the platform provides trusted transaction methods, smooth user experiences, and years of expertise to help maintain account security.

A Modern Europe Variant
So today I just discovered that "A Modern Europe" is actually just the Hearts of Iron 4 state map slightly edited. It's nearly identical, which explains why that map is so well made that it also works as a WW2 variant. It obviously would, if it was made using a map created for a WW2 game.

Has anyone else realized this as well, or is this just common knowledge?

Blocking players
If you click the little smiley face in another users profile, does that block them completely? Are they unable to join games that you’ve joined, or unable to join games you’ve created? How does that work? There were a couple of players in my last game who, for all appearances seem to be meta-gaming. It’s been reported but I don’t know what, if any, action will be taken, and I’d like to avoid playing with them in the future.
