07 Nov 19 UTC Good game all! I'm particularly glad for the game long alliance with Britain, especially in the early stages when partly due to frequent misorders I kept on floundering and getting nowhere in South America. It became much easier after I finally defeated Portugal. Glad we came to a draw instead of someone soloing :)
07 Nov 19 UTC Well, glad I made you feel like you had to work for it!
07 Nov 19 UTC Yeah, you were the greatest obstacle for me all game! After your elimination it was essentially smooth sailing. I fucked up the stab of Italy and Germany slightly, but not too seriously to allow Russia the chance to solo.
07 Nov 19 UTC Well done France, Russia, and England. I thought Russia still had a good shot at a solo there, so I'm a bit surprised he didn't go for it - I think France and England lucked out there.

I was disappointed in Turkey's decision to stab me in the early-to-mid game. I understand he was bottled up in a landlocked position and had no hope for a solo from that position, but I thought he might be willing to continue that way for a piece of a draw. Instead, his instigating war with me led to both our downfalls. There is a lesson there - if you're going to stab make sure you can follow through and finish your foe - Turkey was not in a position for that (or hadn't thought out how to complete his plan). Given that he only hurt his ability to survive and end-up in a draw, he really should have tried to extend our alliance so that he could at least have a shot at a draw.

I regret my blown convoy move in Autumn 1947, that was game-altering for me. It gave Turkey a fleet build on the Med where he would have had none and I would have had a build instead which would have allowed me to knock him out more quickly. It also opened up Venice to a attack by Germany (more on that). I truly believe I would have been in good shape to get to the final draw if not for that blown move. As it was, this created a protracted fight between me and Turkey.

But I was most seriously disappointed by Germany's move to attack me in Venice and then Rome, because it was tactically a very bad decision:
1) I was attacking Turkey at that point who was strongly allied with Russia, and Russia was at war with Germany. Germany's attack on me strengthened a strong ally of his biggest enemy who could then have helped Russia attack him.
2) If I had been able to beat back Turkey, I would have continued to press at Russia and likely found myself in strong alliance with Germany - I was a very logical choice for Germany to foster alliance (we eventually did work together when it was too late), and Germany seemed to miss that for a minor short term gain of a single SC. An ally is worth a lot more than 1 or 2 SCs - c'mon Germany!
3) Probably most significant, there was a delicate balance in play between me and France in the Mediterranean Sea. If either of us came to dominate it, that player would be a threat to Germany in Europe. Germany very poorly upset that balance and gave France the opening to get position to attack Germany where they had a nice stalemate line that Germany could maintain. Further, the Italian peninsula, including Venice, could only be controlled with stability by a player with naval support in the Mediterranean, so Germany was only taking my territory temporarily - he couldn't hold it. I suppose if that short term gain allowed him to build units to grab a long term position in the north it might have been worth it - but he had no such plan. Instead, he effectively took those SCs only to hand them over to France - I don't think he thought that out particularly well. I give the poor play "award" to Germany in this game.
07 Nov 19 UTC Italy, ultimately I think I would have attacked you and Germany just as a means to narrow the draw. But yes your protracted war with Turkey and then Germany's stab provided me with the perfect opportunity to redeploy towards my mainland. I am a bit surprised Russia stopped his push for a solo, but it seemed to have ended a few years ago around 1952 not at the very end.

I also took time to color everything around me the right color. Disappointed Russia didn't make that effort.
07 Nov 19 UTC Oddly, Galapagos looks yellow to me still on the final map.
08 Nov 19 UTC Italy:

My stab came after reaching a fork in the road. I lived to regret it somewhat, although given the same circumstances I'd probably do something similar again. At the time I faced a choice of either sitting semi-permanently on my handful of SCs and waiting for you or Russia to stab me; or stab one of you and try to build momentum first. My initial preference was stabbing Russia but I was never given a good opportunity. By then my alliance with Russia had been strengthened by our common China enemy, and Russia was way too well-defended.

You left some very unguarded SCs just as my conquest to the east was hitting a brick wall. You were too tempting a target, despite how peaceful and productive our alliance had been until then. I was initially planning on just trying to move a fleet through Cairo and the Red Sea so I could start supporting my eastern front from water. My initial stab orders were more limited and "peaceful" in hopes that you'd just let my fleet through and we could return to some kind of soft alliance thereafter. But at the last minute I realized that was probably a futile hope, and total war (or at least the preparation for it) was my best chance.

I'd hoped one of your neighbors would have attacked you too, so my units wouldn't be your sole focus. But you had a lot of peaceful neighbors for a while which made my job tougher.

Sure, going for the draw crossed my mind, but I figured you or Russia would definitely stab me at some point. I'd hoped that by fighting for some breathing room early on, I'd at least be in a position to force my way into a draw. Alas, it didn't work out this time. But this game was definitely still interesting and fun despite the result.

And you certainly exacted some revenge on me, so kudos for that.
08 Nov 19 UTC Congratulations to France, Britain, and Russia. You all played quite well.
08 Nov 19 UTC GG, well played by Britain and France. I missed my chance for like 3-4 years ago, but then I was risking putting all other powers in alliance which would ended in like a 5 way draw. I was playing all game very conservatively, so I decided to stay true to the strategy, that worked quite well and go for 3way draw and maybe let Britain or France make a mistake. But they were too good to make such mistakes.
Finally, I had quite an easy path with all civil disorders in the east, so it’s only fair to draw.
Shout out to Germany, for making it interesting in the western front, Turkey for helping with China and Italy for making it really difficult to take any advantage of chaos in the Middle East/Balkans.
08 Nov 19 UTC *missed my chance for solo
