21 Jul 17 UTC Spring, 1901: Dr. Recommended (Gamedirector): (Dr. Recommended ): Been traveling last 24 hours, bear with me. Please double check your nation assignment (Germany, I think). We've got someone else in the wrong slot.
21 Jul 17 UTC Spring, 1901: Dr. Recommended (Gamedirector): (Dr. Recommended ): If you can't see what nation you are assigned in this game, please leave the game, double check what nation you're supposed to be, and rejoin. If your correct nation is taken, then leave the game and wait for it to become available.

This is why I waited so long for captanmeme to shuffle nations for us....
23 Jul 17 UTC Spring, 1901: Info: This is a choose your country game.
31 Aug 17 UTC So glad this horror is over. Congratulations Tantrumizer, very nice to see an Austrian victory in this tournament!

What a terrible game this was for me. Hellfire on all sides (Turkey, Austria and England). Not for a single moment had my Russia become bigger than the 4 sc's i started with haha.
31 Aug 17 UTC Though all in all, i'm happy to see such a beautiful Austrian solo as conclusion to this tournament.

I've had a splendid time playing these games against you guys.
31 Aug 17 UTC I didn't expect to win this turn and in fact I was thought France was likely to get the win until I guess right in Berlin. It was a bit nerve-wracking trying to figure out how many centres England had left. Good game all and thanks for the fast speed in this tournament. Well done to BobRoss for the tournament win.
31 Aug 17 UTC And Russia, I think I'd mentioned in a previous game, I'd had good luck with Austria in FoW. I have no idea why, but it is my strongest power in this variant, although I can't manage much in any other version of the classic board. This game featured the usual multi-year hedgehog hiding from Turkish and Russian attacks, plus the odd Italian foray.
31 Aug 17 UTC Just to correct my first sentence above - "I didn't expect to win this turn and in fact I thought France was likely to get the win until I guessed right in Berlin in Spring 1918."
31 Aug 17 UTC Haha oh true, that was you indeed ;-)

Well you really have to teach me. In more than 50% of my FoW random assignments i have been given Austria and only once was I able to pull of the solo. Even if I do fare well initially (like in my Austrian game in the beginning) i almost always get stuck in Bulgaria/Rumania (due to a lack of naval power) and that's when Russia and Turkey team up against me to push me back.

In any case, regarding this game, you should be thankful to Scuba for ruining the Russian threat in year #1. Not only did he immediately run into Armenia, he also blocked my access to Rumania. Combined with a German block of Sweden i knew Russia wasn't likely to play any important role in this game.
31 Aug 17 UTC Oh yeah I hate playing Russia when you don't get a build in 1901. And it is not unusual...
31 Aug 17 UTC Congrats Tantrum! I'm surprised I survived. Doc kept the pressure on all game.
31 Aug 17 UTC Great job tantrumizer. I was so close, and for a single turn I thought I would get it. Really enjoyed this one, great battles England and Italy, so much ebb and flow in this one.
31 Aug 17 UTC These Fog tournament have been awesome. I will definitely make them a regular occurrence.
31 Aug 17 UTC Agree on the tournament. I think it would be improved by better anonymity (random country selections like the Aberration tournament) and by having the country-ranking bug (kindly advised of by BobRoss) fixed, although I have to admit the bug did bring its own challenges and interest, and is arguably "foggy" to some degree.

The best thing about this one was not having any of those players who take 4 days to do a retreat/build cycle. :-) Also, I'd prefer if the next tournament didn't have the same guy solo the first 3 games, unless it's me.
31 Aug 17 UTC Well done Tantrumizer. Congrats. Not much to say about my performance in this one. I made a bad guess early in Skagerrak which cost me Denmark, but more importantly it gave England position against me. While I tried to recover I hade to expose myself to France. I hoped he'd side with me instead, but of course he did not. Shows how vulnerable Germany is when playing aggressively in gunboats. One missed guess and you lose everything in a few years. Ah well, I enjoyed playing this tournament very much, and big congratulations to champion BobRoss.
