Cold War Tournament
I am looking to start a rated Cold War tournament consisting of group and knockout stages. Groups of 4 will face each other twice, once as each country. The top two (or three, pending interest) from each group will move on to the knockout stage, with each matchup lasting two games. Users will play as each country once. If tied 1-1, an additional two games are played until a winner is determined.

Grahamso1 vs Maucat ends (after a monster 15 year battle in game 2!!) at 1-1. Honours shared

Is anyone else still playing? And how many have we lost to CD? I’ve lost track at this point

I'm still playing.

Sorry I meant are any games currently going on for round 2 (as well as who has dropped out)

Aurelian CD'd one of ours and didn't join the other. Should we just count that as a 2-0 win for me?
Grahamso1 (1912 D)
27 Feb 18 UTC
I’m not sure it makes a lot of sense. Didn’t you get a default 2-0 in the first round too against shfinkle? It seems there are 4 active players in one side of the draw (actually been very enjoyable) and only 2 on the other side with 2 people completely AWOL. (I’m assuming AE is still around. Makes it all a bit lopsided. I dunno best approach. Happy to play Jason next though
ubercacher16 (2196 D)
27 Feb 18 UTC
I defer to whatever AE thinks is right as he is the tournament director.
Grahamso1 (1912 D)
27 Feb 18 UTC
Here’s an idea: Aurelian and Shfinkle are out. Their games don’t count. The other six all play each other. Five rounds. No knockout (or a playoff for top two maybe). Or just call it a day. Whatever people want to do
ubercacher16 (2196 D)
27 Feb 18 UTC
We could simply get two replacements, I don't know how simple that would be.

As I remember AE said that everyone gets into the knockout round.
Maucat (1834 D)

Grahamso1, must we play another couple of games?
Grahamso1 (1912 D)
27 Feb 18 UTC
no I think a 1-1 tie just means 1 point each. That was mentioned earlier I remember
Grahamso1 (1912 D)
27 Feb 18 UTC
So in our group:
Ender 4pts
Maucat 3pts
Grahamso1 1pt
Jason 0
Grahamso1 (1912 D)
27 Feb 18 UTC
Other group
Uber 4pts
AE 3pts
Shfinkle 0
Aurelian 0

With AE v Shfinkle game 2 stuck but an obvious AE win (effectively this is the default group with only 2 players really in it

I think the six of us keep playing.
All the past was warm ups.
No new people.
Everyone plays everyone once.
Top two in a one game playoff.
Winner gets $1,000, a drunk donkey, or our unending awe and bragging rights, whichever is cheaper.
ubercacher16 (2196 D)
05 Mar 18 UTC
That sounds good to me.
ubercacher16 (2196 D)

Especially the part about the drunk donkey.
Hello, everyone. Apologies for my inactivity. Here is what I'm thinking, drawing from your ideas as well as what seems to work.

We restart the tournament
The six of us (excluding Aurelian and Shfinkle) are drawn into two groups of three. All rules are the same except for the knockout round.

The knockout round will look like this.
First round: Game 1. A2 v. B3, 2. A3 v. B2
Second round: A1 v. Winner of Game 1, B1 vs. W2
The winners face off in the finals. Each match is two games, with each player playing both countries.

So what are the groups of three?
ubercacher16 (2196 D)
07 Mar 18 UTC
Or are we not in the knockout round yet? Also do we need to play a game AE?
Maucat (1834 D)
07 Mar 18 UTC
I won my old Group with 5 pts.
Grahamso1 (1912 D)
07 Mar 18 UTC
We currently have a group of 4 (with me and Justin not yet played each other). And a group of 2 (AE and Uber, have you played each other?). Not sure what happens next. Path of least resistance might be: A2 v A4, B2 v A3, for first round knockout. With A1 and B1 getting a bye. I know this has 2nd and 4th from group A playing again but avoids the need to ignore some games as void and someone having to flip groups and play a two more games against group B
Grahamso1 (1912 D)
07 Mar 18 UTC
(+1)
If we can agree on this, or something else, then I will play Justin. In group A the positions 2nd, 3rd 4th are all still in play
ubercacher16 (2196 D)
07 Mar 18 UTC
AE and I have not played.
Grahamso1 (1912 D)
07 Mar 18 UTC
Can we agree on the above idea? Then two more group games to play Uber v AE and me V Justin. And then as suggested? A2-A4 and B2-A3. Winners to play A1 and B1 in the semis.
ubercacher16 (2196 D)
08 Mar 18 UTC
I'll go along with whatever everyone else wants. Don't have time to create the games between me and AE though.
We are going to restart the tournament and play two groups of three. I will get the random number generator up and make the groups.

Soon on vDiplomacy: Canton Diplomacy
After trying three excruciatingly long games of Colonial Diplomacy and seeing its annoying lack of balance by myself, I decided to revive Paul Webb's 'Canton Diplomacy' from the depths of the internet. With Oli's help and blessing we'll be playing it quite soon!

Feature Request: Friends List
Similar to how the site already has functionality for muting and blocking other players, we should be able to add them to a friends list so that tracking them down to send PMs is more convenient. It would also make hosting games with players you know you enjoy playing with much easier. I don’t believe that this feature is currently in the issue tracker, and it seems like it would be very easy to implement given the current muting and blocking features already in place.

Hi everybody.
I'm working on a rules-page about our 4 press-types.
Someone willing to submit some guide what these different press-types are, and what these mean for playing the game?

Imbalanced map?
It seems as if several maps need some balancing work. For example, England* v Turkey is skewed toward England, and in Rinascimento, the French are virtually at the hands of other players’ wills.

Hello, I have a problem. I am going away for a few days (tomorrow), and I don't know how to quit the game I am in. There are 36 players, so I cannot reasonably ask for all of them to pause --- besides, there isn't enough time --- so I am stuck.

Playing with fewer players
Hi all!

I know this is probably a noob question, but I need to resolve this issue: is it possible to start a game with fewer players than those normally expected? I tried it once with the Rinascimento variant, but the game didn't launch just because there weren't 12 players.
Thank you in advance!
