The idea of making a set of games of one variant playing each time a different power until you played them all is very nice. The idea of making these games gunboat is fantastic. So instictively I'd be up for it.

Unfortunately, thinking of it a bit deeper, there are some points that force me to skip this.

I'm going to tell you them, just in case you might want to modify something in this event or to make up a second one running along this.
1. KW901 is LONG. According to the variant list, this is the second longer variant in average (30 turns). On a rough computation, these 15 games would take about 56 months (averagely). This would be a very long time for any event, even more for an event in which you play 15 times the same variant for more 4 years long.
I could consider a Map of max 10 players, max 24 turns average, max 1day/phase, that would mean roughly "only" 20 months, averagely. Playing 2 games at once, we could bring the duration down to 1 year or even something less.
2. Semi-Anon. Not sure what you mean, aside that it will be neither FullyAnon nor NonAnon. SemiAnon is a very wide concept and I usually don't like it. But I could change my mind if you explain what you exactly mean and why it would be needed (and why NonAnon couldn't be good).
3. WTA is not my favourite variant, but it could be ok. The best, IMO, would be neither WTA nor PPSC, but it would be making it a Tournament scoring. We could re-adapt Dixiecon (http://www.dixiecon.com/id9.html), that highly rewards solos, for a number of players higher than 7.
Making it a tournament would be much fun, but it would imply a serious organization effort, specifically in how to manage pauses, drop outs, etc.. that are inevitable in tournaments.

Semi-Anon means that you know who's in the game, but not what country they control - the game is anon, but a list is given beforehand of who is in it.

OK here we go.

* my initial crazy idea is to play all of the games at the same time. But we could amend this to playing 2 sets at the same time (one set of 8-games, one set of 7). I know KW901 is a long variant, but I'm really keen to play each power at least once! but at the average of 60 days per set...

* I'm not really interested in running a tournament, just to play each power in this variant once. Drop-outs are a serious problem, and would most likely effect each game at the same time. I'm open to suggestions about how to deal with this issue (whether we make a no NMR policy and find a replacement player for all the games effected at once, or whether we adopt a no NMR policy but find individual players on a case-by-case basis.)

*Semi-Anon is precisely what Captainmeme said. We have a sign-up list, but when the games start we don't know who plays what country. We'll have to have a non-player PM each player with the countries they will play in each game)

*unfortunately we are bound by the restraints of the site - we can't really change the point system to suit our needs. But I'm open to PPSC if that is what the majority want.

*Point buy-in will only be small (2 ?), but the RR requirement will be 90+

I'm interested. If it matters I favor WTA and larger point investments as I think both attract high quality players in terms of talent and dependability. But I enjoy the 901 map, and love the idea. As for any NMR policy, anything that doesn't seriously delay the games is fine. Delays kill games. NMRs are annoying, but apathy sucks!

I like the 90+ RR, 2 pt bet, WTA, gunboat, 2 day phases, and prefer not much more than 2 games at a time.

Btw, when are more known world variants coming out? 901 wasn't supposed to be the only one was it?

as for NMR policy, I'm with RUFFHAUS, feel free to replace NMR's immediately, but as long as we can fill them quickly. If the game drags on for a long time waiting for replacements we are likely to lose more (or at least lose interest).

I'm playing in the webDip 17x17 World map tournament (almost complete now). All 17 games ran at the same time, and as you could imagine it got to be a bit much. I really enjoyed playing several different nations at once, just not quite that many!

Put me on the definitely-maybe list. I would suggest coming to a consensus on the number of games to be concurrently running, and then as games end another will start to keep that number of games going. So if there are to be always 5 games running, then we start with 5 and each game that ends means another one begins. This would keep the overall duration to what, maybe 6 months? Another consideration for those not wanting even that many is that of 5 games, especially gunboat in which your top-notch diplomacy skills can't save you, at least one is likely to result in early defeat. So the actual game commitment is more likely to be 3-4.

5 games at a time (4-8 OK)
36-hour phases (24-50 OK)
WTA
10 point + buy in (I prefer playing for more, but I know this gets restrictive for some players. The number of concurrent games certainly factors as well).

As for CDs, I think we make a brief effort to find a replacement and otherwise press on. CDs suck, but I agree with Leif and RUFFHAUS.

So I think so far the consensus is for NMRs to be dealt with quickly, and for it being WTA. The voice of experience in this sort of thing is coming from Dr.R so I'm thinking 5 games to start, with a new game beginning as soon as one finishes.

**We'll have to wait until the end of the year for some more variants to start coming out for me. The Known World 1200 is something that is in the pipeline as well as the Known World Venus.

Since this is not meant to be a tourney, I’m open to play ½ of the games if someone else is willing to share the other half with me. Personally I do not plan to play all the 15 positions.
This way I could play 2 – 3 games at the same time and not more.


Other preferences:

Pot type: I’m fine with either PPSC-WTA. Whatever is the decision, just make sure that players accept to play according to the pot rule.

Speed: 24 to 30 hours/phase.

Bet size: same as Dr.R said

NMR policy: my favorite is ∞/1, but if this is the minority, I’m ok with anything else.

Decima Legio, I would also like to play in half of them, because I don't think I'll have time after the summer ends, so if you'd be willing to let me take the first bunch I would definitely be up for it.

I love Known World 901. Easily one of the best variants on the site. Add in gunboat style, the opportunity to play every country, and with reliable players too? I can't pass this up. Count me in.

With more concurrent games, we would have to have longer phases to compensate. No sense in having especially long phases when it's gunboat.. that just leads to boredom and probably even more NMRs in the long run. In the end I don't think running a bunch of concurrent games would save much time. My preference is for 12 hr or 24 hr phases with 2-3 games going at once, NMR/off. WTA or PPSC doesn't matter to me.

Plus I fear playing 5+ concurrent games of Known World would lead to burnout (even for a Known World lover like me). Plus, having so many slots devoted to this project would eat up our availability to play other variants, or else disqualify those like myself who normally play at or near the max allowed number of games.

thanks for your interest, but I am seeking for someone to share the games "in parallel" with me, not "in series" with me, since I don't want to play more than 2 – 3 KW901games at the same time.
Unfortunately my requirements do not seem to match with yours

Decima's suggestion is more or less what my "maybe" meant. If 1/2 load means that, put me in that category

Btw, kaner, I "voted" PPSC; but if the majority opts for WTA, that's fine for me.
