@FurOfThe Nortmen "what is vDip scoring?"
It is the score that appears next to your name. Your vRanking is currently 1047. It is an elo-like rating system.
@JECE "Tournaments, for whatever reason, tend to ignore the rulebook."
In my mind, there is no particular reason to follow the rulebook.
@JECE "Those second-largest players wouldn't be thinking logically. In PPSC, there is always a points-incentive to win."
Suppose you are playing a game of Classic. One power has 17 supply centers. You have 14 supply centers and your ally has 3 supply centers; together, you are holding a stalemate line preventing the biggest power to solo. You have the possibility of stabbing your ally and taking 2 supply centers, but this would cause the board leader to get to 18. Should you stab? PPSC scoring says yes. I am not saying that there is no point-incentive to win in PPSC, but there is no point-incentive to prefer a draw over a mere survival, so there is less of an incentive to prevent others from winning.
@JECE "And I insist that players are far less likely to try and win the game in WTA games."
I insist that instead, players are far less likely to prevent other players from winning in PPSC games. In PPSC, there is simply less of an incentive to stop a solo from occurring. Instead of going for a draw, you can just grab as many supply centers as possible. If someone else solo's, but you grab more than one third of all the supply centers, you get more points than you would have gotten in any realistic draw. On the other hand, in WTA games, players are very wary of anyone close to a solo, and as a result, fewer players solo, and more games end in a draw. As it should; a solo should be a rare accomplishment.
