This Known World 901 gunboat game apparently crashed during the most recent phase. Can any of the mods explain what happened in more detail?

Bug report for Layered Map
So I'm trying to convoy an army from map 2 to map 1. I have fleets in the bordering sea territory in maps 1 and 2, and a fleet in the destination bordering in map 2. It SHOULD work, but when I try to enter it the convoy orders all disappear and it gives me an error.

Competitive Dip Round 2
So the first "Competitive Dip" game has finished, with Ruffhaus, Mapu, and myself ending in a 3 way draw. So I'm back, calling for Round 2! Who wants in? Personally, I'm hoping to try out Rinascimento as a "competitive" game just to see how it plays out!

Ankara Crescent 100% VCs
Usually, if you put a game on 100% Victory Conditions, it becomes rather boring - nobody ever fights for a solo, as it is almost always impossible, so everyone aims for a draw from the start.

Need 4 more players for Sengoku map
as the thread title says, im searching for four more players to fill my "Japan United" game on the Sengoku map. Since creating a game alone does not seem to yield the required number of enthusiastic participants, ill try it via the forum. Only requirement is, that those people stay in game, even if shit starts to get serious for them ^^

Gunboat game: obvious coordination outside the board
wondering how to react on a supported move in a gunboat that is either extremely unlikely to be guessed out of the blue by the supporter, or coordinated off-board, which should not happen in gunboats.
if my opponents coordinate off-board, this game is totally ruined for me and i can give it up right away, as i can't stand a chance against them if they are that well coordinated.

Sorry Folks
I am embarrassed to state that in the time since I lost my Internet Connection at home last Wednesday or Thursday, I have so far missed 22 turns, increasing my total from 5 and reducing my reliability rating to 90%. I apologise for this and hope to get my line fixed tomorrow.

Known World
Hi all!

Could someone explain to me more clearly how neutral standing armies are rebuilt in Known World 901? I always thought that if you did not have an army in a territory, the neutral standing army got rebuilt, even if you owned that territory. However, I am in a game where it seems a person owned a territory, left it unoccupied for the fall, but the standing neutral army was not rebuilt. It was not formerly anyone's home center.

Is the WWII map unbalanced?
I was pondering the statistics when I realised, that France soloed only once, while the Soviet managed it 10 times. Is this because the map is unbalanced, or because the Soviet players are that good?

Random Question
If you CD in a game and get taken over by someone, can you rejoin that game if someone else CDs by taking them over?
tiger (1653 D)

so say you were germany and you cd and someone takes over, then if france cds two years later can you rejoin the game as france?

Really? It's allowed? I didn't think it would be, since old grudges could result in a biased game.
G-Man (2466 D)

Sounds odd to me too. Do any of the moderators know the rationale behind this?
Guaroz (2030 D (B))
26 Aug 13 UTC
I 'third' what tiger and G-Man said.
What I guess is that forbidding take-over to someone, who once was in a game and now is not anymore, would be very hard to code and implement. I can see no other reason, can anyone?
Captainmeme (1400 D Mod (B))
26 Aug 13 UTC
The rationale is that putting restrictions on this would be very difficult to code, and therefore time-consuming for Oli/Kestas, and it happens so infrequently that it's not a huge issue. I'd agree that the grudges could carry across if it did happen, and this would be damaging to the game, but if you suspect this is happening you can always report it to the ModForum.

But you knew that already, didn't you Guaroz? After all nothing happens here without your say so.

The idea of it being difficult to write the code to correct may or may not be so. I find the idea of writing any code to be difficult, but this doesn't sound all that complex to me. There's apparently some existing coding in place that allows a new player to join a vacant position, and there is coding that allows for you to block/mute players, which prevents them from joining a game. It does not see that much different to prevent a previously CD'd or eliminated player from taking on a vacant position. And even if it is difficult, it would be a worthy improvement to the game, particularly with anonymous games where this could go on completely undetected.
kaner406 (2061 D Mod (B))

not completely undetectable - all players are informed that a country in CD has been taken over and who the player was who CDd. When the game ends you see who has completed the game, and can compare if the player who CDd is still 'in' the game via this situation.

Having said this, I haven't seen one single game where this situation has occurred. Neither reported nor personal experience.

Thanks gang. I think it would be worth coding, as I believe it has happened in one of my games, though for the life of me, I can't remember which one. I just remember being surprised that a player who CD'd was somehow still in the game in the end.
Mapu (2086 D (B))

I'm pretty sure Tyran jumped from country to country in at least one game I was in.
Tomahaha (1170 D)
26 Aug 13 UTC
If this were allowed, what a HORRIBLE situation. How can anyone allow such nonsense? Not only are you allowing someone who screwed everyone in the game over by his negligence but now any alliances that were made as one country now gets screwed up by this player now taking over another. But then again, any game with 2 CD's is probably a piss-poor game by that time anyways???
I remember that too. I don't think it was a problem, but the potential is certainly there.

Once your CD has been taken over by someone else, then that game is no longer on your file. You can only be traced back to the game by mods and others in the game, and that is because of the message that appears when someone CD's. It would be exceedingly difficult to implement that code, as you can't just splice code together. By that logic, making any game into build anywhere could be as easy as checking a box in the New Games tab. But in reality it takes several code changes to make that work. And this case would be so extremely rare that I personally don't think it would be worth Oli's time to code. However, other people are allowed to make code contributions. Anyone who is so compelled should feel free to test this out!

I think RUFFHAUS' idea earlier that once you CD you get a "block" from that game might not be as hard to implement. But I personally don't think it's worth it as you can't rejoin the game as someone else unless someone has already taken over your old country. I also think it's better to have someone rather than no one playing a country.
Ninjanrd (1248 D)
26 Aug 13 UTC
Yeah, but that might prevent you from going back and looking at that game once it has finished; or even while it is still going.

Kaner, it may in fact be a difficult task to code the restriction, but in my opinion it would be a worthy effort nevertheless. I'd do it myself if I had any inkling of how to write code, but you may as well ask me to translate War and Peace into Sanskrit, and then back into Mandarin Chinese as ask me to write code.
